Up to now on Buckwild, we’ve been ready to write off most of the characters as boring, possibly inbred simpletons with lives we care very minimally about. MTV clearly loves young adult reality shows: they already have two huge hit shows about teenage parenting (16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom), and they’ve announced a new show about young newlyweds. Up next: they’re reportedly casting for an as-yet-unnamed show about high school dropouts. More
Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, it has become ridiculously easy for celebrities– and those close to them– to connect with their fans. Case in point: We’ve recently realized here at Crushable HQ that we’ve somehow managed to attract a lot of attention from the parties involved in both 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom. Our immediate reaction? Neat-o! Naturally, in our recaps and other posts, we can only comment on what we see, so it’s fascinating to be able to get insiders’ perspectives. Of course, it’s rather easy to pose as someone else in the great wilderness that is the web, so it’s possible that not all of them are the genuine article; but even so, they’re worth a look. With the massive success of Teen Mom, it’s not at all surprising that MTV is sticking with their teens-trying-to-do-adult-stuff formula. They’ve just announced plans for a new show called Married Young, which is about people who … married young. Brilliant, right? More
Though 16 and Pregnant and its companion show Teen Mom have been praised for educating teens about contraception and pregnancy, that’s about as far as MTV’s sex ed program goes. Though they’ve really gone the extra mile to give multiple perspectives on teen pregnancy, including airing a special on abortion and including 16 and Pregnant episodes that feature adoptions, STDs never come up.
