Dear World: What's Up With This Recent Rash Of Child Sexualization?

Maybe it’s been too long since a Pete Townshend or a Paul Reubens has brought significant attention to exactly how detrimental any degree of child sexualization can be, because the message seems to have gotten lost somewhere beneath a pile of Computer Engineer Barbie‘s sparkly leggings.

The photo above is from the December of French Vogue, and it’s part of an extensive a Tom Ford-shot spread of six-year-old models lounging in poses evocative of the sexy positions adult models might make in the same situations. More »

Julie Taymor's 'Spiderman': It's Too Much. But Is That Bad?

Julie Taymor‘s $60 million Broadway adaptation of Spiderman may be in a perpetual state of postponement, but with billboards up in Times Square and a tentative opening date in January, the director of such box office successes as Lion King and Across the Universe may actually be close to making her Spiderman dreams happen. Crushable Quote Of The Day: Taylor Swift Is John Nash, Basically

Taylor Swift is definitely having a good year: Without hearing any of her music (like, literally never having heard one song she’s ever put out) her presence in the past several months has made her as undeniably a big presence as Kanye West, who notoriously dissed Swift during the VMAs and inadvertently started an awesome meme. But for those who do wonder how the 20-year-old comes up with her musical inspiration, she admitted her secret formula in May’s edition of Vogue. More »
