We’re back with round two of photos from the Great Gatsby set (see round one here), and Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan are all dressed up and strutting about what I assume is Gatsby’s fancy estate. My big takeaway from this is that I’d totally kill to have Carey-as-Daisy’s wardrobe. Think that’s a possibility? More
Baz Luhrmann‘s adaptation of The Great Gatsby has been filming since September (in Australia! East Ostrich Egg?), and newly released photos give us out three leads dressed up in their most dapper attire: there’s Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. Just look at these pictures and tell me you don’t want to live in a world where everyone’s this handsome and nattily attired. More
Later on during Hazing Week, we’ll be talking about the most hardcore on-set training that actors have undergone. But today we’re focusing on how specific stars have risen to the challenge of certain roles. You always hear about women like Renee Zellweger packing on weight to play Bridget Jones, but how about the men who drop to alarmingly low weights for their Oscar bait? More
Not all superheroes fight for the American way: The X-Men, for one, know that they’re despised by all of humanity. But there are a couple of caped crimefighters who are willing to lay down their lives for their country, or at least their city, to repay some sort of debt. So let’s compare four pro-American superheroes — Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and Captain America — against American standards of self-sufficiency, loyalty, and relationships. I’ve tried my best not to include any canon from the comic books and go solely by the movies, so any generalizations or theories are supported by the visions of Christopher Nolan, Marc Webb, Sam Raimi, and others. This photo of Tobey Maguire getting playful with his daughter Ruby just might be the most precious image ever captured. The image was snapped yesterday right after Tobey picked his youngin’ up from school — hence the pink lunchbox and backpack. Also? We’re totally jealous that Los Angeles is wearing t-shirts. Sigh. (See even more adorable pictures here.) More
It’s not quite Christmas yet, but you’re gearing up to haul all your stuff back to your parents for a month. Winter break: kind of a bitch, right? Your high school friends are kind of depressing to be around, since they haven’t seem to done much while you’ve been a way. Your family is awkward, and your room was been converted into a computer den. Don’t worry, you’re in good company. Plenty of movie scenarios revolve around homecomings that aren’t quite homey. Here are a couple of our favorites. More
Calling all beautiful little fools: Baz Luhrmann‘s prepping to begin directing his film adaptation of The Great Gatsby. He’s apparently set on Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Tobey Maguire as Nick Calloway — but what about Gatsby’s love, Miss Daisy Buchanan? Apparently, Baz is having a harder time finding the right woman. Rebecca Hall played the role at a reading, but the director has some other actresses in mind as well.
Reportedly, he’s considering Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. Amanda gets our vote for the gal we can best see sinking her teeth into the iconic role, but since absolutely nobody asked us, here’s a list of five more actresses we’d like to see Baz consider for the part: More
