Look, I’ll be straight up honest with you. I never liked The Little Mermaid. Even at a very young age, I knew that Ariel was a stupid idiot. And that Prince Eric was a shallow dickweed. More

You know how fans find connections between different movies in the Pixar world? Well apparently that happens in Disney movies as well, as someone’s found a definite connection between Frozen and Tangled, and possibly all the way back to The Little Mermaid. More
It was just announced that Sofia Coppola is in talks to direct the upcoming live action version of The Little Mermaid, so we figured we’d use this brief window before the cast gets announced to make some recommendations of our own. More
Ready to have your mind blown by the amazingness that is this mash-up? Good, because you’ll be playing this on repeat all day.Not only does it combine Bruno Mars, The Little Mermaid, The Fresh Prince theme song and Kanye, but it combines it well enough to make it sound like one perfect song. More
Before you call shenanigans, watch this video and see where the uncommon similarities — heroines interacting with their princes, Ariel’s shell bra, Eric’s sheepdog — pop up in Enchanted. More
Obviously this is a ploy to make lightning strike twice (or five times), but we’re the ones who win! More
We figured that the Disney 23 Expo would be all about the company’s new projects, projects we had long outgrown — but it’s actually a nostalgia-fest! First there was the silly Lion King bloopers video, and now this awesome reunion. Four actresses who’ve played iconic Disney characters were given the Disney Legends award, then took to the stage to sing the classic song “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes.” From left to right, that’s Paige O’Hara (Belle), Lea Salonga (Mulan and the singing voice of Jasmine), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), and Jodi Benson (Ariel)! On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that a musical based off of Rocky is in the works, with plans for it to hit Broadway in 2013. My immediate reaction (besides “That’s a TERRIBLE IDEA!”) was this: What is up with all of the musicals being based off of movies these days? Are there truly no original stories left? Or are the people who write Broadway just getting lazy? Because Rocky is far from the only movie to get the Broadway treatment. There have been many, and while some, like The Producers, have in fact ended up being wonderful, the vast majority of them are either bad, or– even worse– simply mediocre. Here’s a look at 17 movies that probably shouldn’t have attempted to take on Broadway. More
Classic fairy tales are having a resurgence in popularity, as there are dueling Snow White films currently in production, and the reimagined Red Riding Hood had a fairly good reception in theaters a few months ago. Now, Sony has greenlit a dark version of The Little Mermaid, based on Carolyn Turgeon‘s book about a mermaid who dangerously obsesses after a prince betrothed to someone else. The thing is, someone else already came up with a scarring version of the tale: Just check out the Japanese anime Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. More

If you grew up in the 90s, you probably had a Disney princess nightgown, or Halloween costume, or dinner plate. There are Disney princesses in your photo album and goodwill bags and semi-ironic high school T-shirts. Which explains the explosion of Disney Princess art, from the Seven Disney Sins to Disney Fighters. They are an indelible part of our childhoods, and they had a lot more to offer than inspiration for our prom dresses. More
Here’s a new party trick: Screw with people’s heads by making them remember how long ago movies like Jurassic Park, The Little Mermaid, or even Snakes on a Plane hit theaters. Why, we didn’t even have iPhones when most of those came out! (For the record, the thing about The Matrix is a little mind-blowing, considering that its 1999 special effects would probably still hold up today.) More
Britney Spears is back. Again. (Time for a new Greatest Hits album, maybe?) Now she’s releasing a new video for her single “Hold It Against Me.” And while the synthy beats may have earned her negative reviews, Britney’s fans are undeterred! However, I have a question about this video: Who decided to dress her up like Ursula from The Little Mermaid? More
Personally, I always thought that Ursula the Sea Witch had so much more going on than the little mermaid herself, but it’s nice to see that Disney stars are finally revealing their true colors. First Miley Cyrus gets all sexy, … More
It seems that Katie Holmes and daughter Suri Cruise have been having quite the time in New York. I saw some pictures of them from the park the other day and Suri seemed to be showing her independent side in … More
