STDs have a special spot in television: Often, TV likes to pretend they don’t exist, a phenomenon TV Tropes calls “STD Immunity.” Luckily, though, there ARE, in fact, a number of shows that not only acknowledge STDs, but also (and perhaps more importantly), expose their main characters to them. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but for your entertainment and information, here are 10 television characters who have or had STDs: More

Last night’s episode of Skins centered on Daisy, the Filipina trumpet player with a heart of gold. We first see Daisy at her after-school job, where she works as a waitress in a Hooters-style hot chick restaurant where the hamburgers are almost as stacked as the tank tops. We imagine you’d probably have to be 18 for that, no? Alas, not in the world of Skins, where age ain’t nothing but a demo. The tips are good, Daisy says with a grimace, but nobody’s looking at her face. More
Since the beginning of time (we count everything pre-television as being irrelevant to the history of human existence), things on TV have exploded at a rate disproportional to the rate things explode in real life. Motor vehicles tend to be the most popular category of thing to randomly blow up for a quick laugh. While some shows have logical explanations for and real consequences to their car-splosions (see: 90210, Dylan McKay’s bombed car that resulted in the death of his father, nooo), last night’s episode of Skins totally went the “Lolfire” route. Last night’s episode of Skins was the wackiest yet, sending us on a tour through the mixed-up world of Cadie, the show’s resident over-medicated crazy chick. Here’s a partial list of Cadie’s ailments: Obsessive-compulsive disorder, pathological lying, mood disorders, maybe some signs of schizophrenia. Plus, she’s morbidly afraid of pigeons — not that we can blame her. More
On the latest episode of MTV’s Skins we met Chris, the affable ne’er-do-well with a penchant for sharing drug trips with his goldfish. At the beginning of the ep, Chris’s mom skips town, leaving him with an envelope full of cash. Chris finds himself with a house to himself, a thousand bucks, and a group of friends who love nothing more than getting totally wasted at house parties. More
Last night’s episode of controversy-riddled Skins introduced us to Tea, the supercute lesbian who just doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her, man. Tea’s played by newcomer Sophia Black D’Elia as a smoky-voiced, Converse-wearing hearbreaker who, like her pal Tony, always gets what she wants. And what does Tea want? To be the star of the cheerleading squad, to make out with girls, and to dance the night away at hipster lesbian clubs. More
Despite strong ratings, we all bemoaned how the show just completely ripped off the British version -as if it was supposed to do anything else? – but did it way worse (okay, fair). Our inner Anglophile came out as we snubbed our noses at this crass reinterpretation of the oh-so-high-brow themes like “sex,” “pooping,” and “taking Ecstasy.”
Lets give it a rest, guys. If television history has taught us anything, it’s that with a little time American remakes of British programs can become very successful as soon as they stop trying to be exactly like their source material. More
Last night’s premiere ep of MTV’s Skins introduced us to Tony Snyder, the irreverent chick magnet who’s the envy of every single one of his scrawny, Proactiv-tainted classmates. So what’s Tony’s secret? A chiseled body, a sculpted face and the attitude that comes with being the most in-shape teenager this side of military school. More
Tonight’s the premiere of Skins, MTV’s take on the scandalous British series of the same name.Which makes it the perfect time to rundown the differences between the two casts. Let’s be clear: Tony’s still Tony. But Sid has become Stanley and the sensitive gay kid has turned into a badass lesbian. Check out our side-by-side comparison of Skins past and present for more details. More

‘Skins,’ Without The British Accents – The raunchy Skins is coming to MTV! But with one caveat (d’uh): It’s going to be Americanized. Still, like the original on BBC, it will be written mostly by teenagers, and will feature lots of semi-graphic sex, drugs, and ballers. (Deadline)
