If you were a child of the ’80s, odds are you watched either Masters of the Universe or She-Ra: Princess of Power (or, if you’re me, you watched both). Skeletor should be a familiar figure; He-Man’s primary nemesis, this purple-clad bad guy was hell bent on conquering first Castle Grayskull, then the world. It’s a long way to Castle Grayskull, though, so naturally, Skeletor made a couple of stops along the way. What stops, you ask? Why, to visit his buddies in other cartoons, of course! We’ve already seen a Game of Thrones/The Room crossover, so I can’t help but wonder what other magnificent crossovers might be in the HBO epic’s near future. Case in point: Buffalo Speedway artist Yehudi Mercado’s Game of Thrones of Muppets. Naturally, as the noblest Muppet around, Kermit the Frog takes on the role of Ned Stark. There are only four images in the series at present, but more are to come. I don’t know about you guys, but I kind of want to see Rizzo the Rat as Joffrey. Fact: Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, lead a secret life as a mighty hunter of vampires.
Okay, so maybe it isn’t actually fact, but it sure is an entertaining idea. At least, that’s what Seth Grahame-Smith thought, and thus was born the mashup novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. What’s a mashup novel? Allow me to enlighten you: Mashup novels take works of classic literature or biographies of important historical figures and, shall we say, improves on them a bit with the addition of vampires, zombies, mummies, werewolves, and the like. Naturally, the genre has caught on like wildfire in the two years since its inception; in fact, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter did so well that it’s currently being adapted into a movie starring Benjamin Walker of Broadway’s Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
