They sure don’t make ‘em prettier than Ian Somerhalder. The Vampire Diaries actor, formerly of LOST and that totally awesome single-season CW show Young Americans (remember it?!) turns 33 today. Ian, known for his Twitter activism, asked that folks donate to his foundation in lieu of material gifts. And well, our gesture is a gallery of shirtless photos, which is basically the same thing. A well-meaning pair of French Vampire Diaries fans are being taken to court because they dared to name their son “Daemon” in honor of Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) from the CW show. Too bad the French authorities think that they’re naming their newborn after the devil! More

The important message of the day comes from Tim Gunn who discusses how, as a gay 17-year-old, he was so filled with despair he tried to take his own life. Tim swallowed more than 100 pills in the (thankfully unsuccessful) attempt. The failed suicide let to an intervention that eventually allowed Tim to accept his sexuality.
Tim’s video is part of the It Gets Better Project, a video series by journalist and sex advice columnist Dan Savage. Dan and his husband Terry created the first video of encouragement for LGBT youth in response to the suicide of 15-year-old Billy Marcus last month. Was she going to be a diva? A ditz? Little did we know (though maybe Kat did, psychically), that by the end of the interview we’d accidently say “I love you,” instead of “Goodbye.” Too much? We don’t care: Kat Graham is a kick-ass lady. More

The point being: There are some times you just have to lighten up and stop yelling about the oil spill. But other times you have to get serious and not talk about your skin rash on Twitter. Life is a weird balancing act like that. More
