One of the best plays I’ve seen in New York was Sarah Ruhl‘s In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play), about a clueless Victorian doctor who cures women of their “hysteria” with a vibrator… and doesn’t even recognize their orgasms. It’s hilarious, heartrending, and a really smart meditation on female sexuality.
That’s why I’m wary about Hysteria, the new romantic comedy about the actual invention of the vibrator. More
While searching for photos of Hugh Dancy, I came across this cinematic gem from 2003, starring Dancy and Jessica Alba, fresh off her Dark Angel career. In The Sleeping Dictionary, Dancy plays a British expat who travels to the British colony of Sarawak, in Borneo. If you’ve been following the Hunger Games casting decisions on Twitter, chances are you’ve caught the #CinnaWatch2011 hashtag. A pivotal character, Katniss’ main stylist Cinna follows the maxim that “Clothes make the (wo)man”: The outfits he dreams up help Katniss appear sympathetic or powerful depending on who she needs to impress. But so far, no one has been announced to play the role in Lionsgate’s movie, not even some frontrunners. Check out our gallery of who could play Cinna, plus find out more about Brooke Bundy and Latarsha Rose, who have been cast as other Capitol stylists who transform Katniss and Peeta. More
We had to stare at this EW cover for whole moments to figure out who was on it. It’s Henry Cavill, of course, the new English Superman, but four or five other actors came to mind before we noticed that big “S.” We guess having such an everyman face (okay, the most attractive everyman in the galaxy) bodes well for that whole putting on a pair of glasses and secretly turning into Clark Kent thing. Take a look at Henry’s lookalikes and let us know if we forgot anyone. More
Here at Sundance, stars and commoners alike are waking around in snow boots and giant parkas. Winter: It’s the great equalizer. Check out our gallery of some of the scruffy stars who’ve been wandering the streets of Park City. More
