After reading all three Hunger Games books, Donald Sutherland wrote director Gary Ross a three-page email about power and seduction and roses, and President Snow’s strange cat-and-mouse relationship with Katniss Everdeen. It’s a fascinating (and slightly creepy) read. More

Finally after being in the industry since the late 1970′s, Gary Oldman got the Oscar nomination that he should have received easily more than a few times so far in his career. When the Academy Award nominees were announced yesterday, Oldman found himself in the Best Actor category for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. But why did it take so long for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to acknowledge this phenomenal actor? More
Lionsgate just announced that Catching Fire, the second movie in the Hunger Games series, won’t be released until November 22, 2013. That’s more than two years from now, and twenty months after the first movie, which comes out March 23, 2012. Why the delay?! More
Tune in for tonight’s special episode of the Hunger Games Fireside Chat, airing at 10 p.m. EST. We’ll be discussing the latest decisions and rumors: Donald Sutherland as President Snow, splitting the books into four films, and whether there’ll be a steamy love triangle. As always, listen live here. (Blog Talk Radio)
Life & Style claims to have obtained a copy of the Hunger Games script and says that co-writers Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins have broadened Liam Hemsworth‘s part so that Gale — the third leg of the Katniss/Peeta/Gale love triangle — will have a bigger part in the movie than in the books. What we at the Fireside Chat had affectionately termed #SnowWatch2011 is now over: Lionsgate just announced that Donald Sutherland will play President Coriolanus Snow, Panem’s leader for at least 25 years before the start of The Hunger Games. Bring on the prosthetics: Like other Capitol residents, Snow indulges in plastic surgery to keep up a young appearance, and seems to have surgically-enhanced lips. He also wears a pungent rose on his lapel, an eerie symbol for such a bloodthirsty leader. More

Sutherland denies the claim, but it’s a fascinating possibility nonetheless. It might surprise you, however, how many mainstream films there are out there that feature actual sex; here, we’ve assembled for your consideration nine of the best: More
When Disney announced last week that unknown British actor Sam Claflin would be joining the cast of the next installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, we rightly thought, “Wha?” Who is this good looking 23-year-old actor pretty much plucked from obscurity to play “the key role of Philip, a youthful missionary,” alongside the inimitable Johnny Depp? Claflin has just a couple of professional projects under his belt, although not one has yet to air. Still, he has worked with some huge names in the industry — a credit to his natural talent, connections or a hardworking agent. More
