You know what keeps me up at night? Thinking about what happens to Disney villains after they’re defeated by the good guys. Like, Aladdin had a million and a half sequels (fine it only had two), and one of them told us the story of what happened to Jafar after the Genie banished him to the Cave of Wonders for all eternity. If Disney’s visual Genie tribute earlier this week gave you nostalgia pangs and reminded you just how memorable Robin’s onscreen personality was, wait until you watch this video of the Broadway cast of Aladdin leading a sing-along of “Friend Like Me” with the audience on Tuesday night. More
For people my age, one of the most memorable of Robin Williams’ characters is the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin. That film and Robin’s vocal performance were such a special part of so many people’s childhoods, so it’s extremely touching to see the visual tribute the Walt Disney Company has released following Robin’s death. Disney could ruin our favorite musicals. Let’s never let this happen. More
I like to think I’m a good person. Compassionate, even. It makes sense, since parents obviously want to be sure there’s nothing inappropriate or frightening in a movie their kids want to see. But that doesn’t make them any less hilarious to read. More
Even if you could go your entire life without ever hearing “Let It Go” again, you’ll still get a kick out of the movie being unnecessarily censored. When I first heard that Disney was making a movie version of the musical Into The Woods, I was really interested to see how they’d handle the show’s pervasive dark themes. But hey, now we know — they’re just gonna take them out. UGHHHHHH. More
It doesn’t look like this movie’s going away any time soon. Or ever, since we’re going to hear stories for decades to come from women named Elsa describing what inspired their name. According to the newest baby name data, at least. More
Let’s face it, when it comes to our favorite Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows from childhood, there wasn’t much room for all the siblings in a TV family to make it big. More
The Disney Store has announced that they’re planning to offer Princess Leia products as part of their Star Wars merchandise. That’s great news, but unfortunately that wasn’t always the plan. More
We can never resist a pretend casting around here, so let’s get to it. I’m going to assume this version of the story will follow Disney’s animated version, so that’s what I’m basing the characters on. More
