Crushable Quotable: Drake Is Scared Of Tumblr

Crushable Quotable: Drake Is Scared Of Tumblr

Thanks to Twitter and Tumblr, a huge, passionate fanbase made up of preteens and teens have brought their teen/young adult idols to the forefront of pop culture. And for the most part, stars like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez use social media to interact back with the fans who’ve built them up. But there’s at least one young star who pushes back against excessive tweeting and tumbling: Canadian rapper Drake, who thinks that Tumblr is downright scary. More »

Crushable Quotable: Rookie Blue Star Enuka Okuma Got Her Start on Canadian Teen Dramas with Ryan Reynolds

Crushable Quotable: Rookie Blue Star Enuka Okuma Got Her Start on Canadian Teen Dramas with Ryan Reynolds

We’re already in Degrassi withdrawal after last week’s lackluster season finale. Consider it great timing, then, that we recently got to speak with Enuka Okuma, who stars on ABC’s cop drama Rookie Blue, about her acting roots on another Canadian teen drama, Fifteen. Though the name may mean nothing to Americans, one of its other big stars will ring a bell: Ryan Reynolds, with whom Enuka shared the screen for the first season. More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Pre-Prom Lacks the Sex and Death of the Real One

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Pre-Prom Lacks the Sex and Death of the Real One

For some reason, in high-school world graduation comes before prom — usually because more interesting shit goes down when characters are in their prom dresses as opposed to caps and gowns. Then again, there were some interesting moments in “Take A Bow” parts 1 and 2. Riley finally comes out to his mom! Owen trains Anya to bulk up for the army (because somehow she signed up without any physical test…?) by screaming at her like a drill sergeant. Katie obsesses over losing her virginity to Drew at prom night. And Fiona wants to start things up again with Charlie, only to get massively disappointed by a misunderstanding involving a life-size portrait of her. The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Messy Politics

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Messy Politics

“Don’t Panic” parts 1 and 2 did a smart job of giving us a lot of payoff on two arcs that were slowly building up during Now or Never. Sav and Ms. Oh finally give in to their feelings, thanks to some sappy songs with really obvious lyrics — it’s not as scandalous as we would’ve liked, but there’s promise for next week’s prom finale. What was really excellent was the reveal of Type A overachiever Katie‘s one weakness: She suffers from bulimia. And it’s her supposed best friend Marisol who tells everyone! More »

Adam Is Probably Going to Die on Degrassi: Now or Never

Adam Is Probably Going to Die on Degrassi: Now or Never

Degrassi: Now or Never wraps up next week — and as the trailers predicted, there’s going to be a big death at Degrassi’s prom. MuchMusic has released the promo for next week’s tragedy, and I have to anxiously suggest that the death may not be Drew (Luke Bilyk), as I’ve been guessing for the last few weeks. There’s a good chance it’ll be trans kid Adam (Jordan Todosey)! More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with Degrassi: No You Can’t Read My Poker Face

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with Degrassi: No You Can't Read My Poker Face

“Drop It Like It’s Hot” parts 1 and 2 took us through the highs and lows of different relationships at Degrassi. Dave and Alli go from a misunderstanding about sex to her gambling away her scholarship on a high-stakes poker game. Meanwhile, the season’s weirdest friendship begins when Bianca gets stuck in detention with Imogen: The two bond over complicated guys, and Bianca steals Imogen’s birthday money because she refuses to sell drugs at Degrassi. Then everything gets solved with cops and lingerie… More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Eli’s Play Is… Well, It’s Certainly Dramatic

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Eli's Play Is... Well, It's Certainly Dramatic

It’s opening night for Eli‘s semi-autobiographical play, and while he’s now made Clare the hero, Jake‘s the villain. Plus, poor Imogen is trying to get Eli to like her, but the mercurial playwright (who’s not taking his meds) won’t see her as anything but a shadow of Clare. Outside of the drama classroom, KC sabotages adoption proceedings, and Anya can’t seem to find any sort of career that fits her. (coughLARPercough) Curtains up! More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with Degrassi: The First Rule of Cagefighting Club Is…

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with Degrassi: The First Rule of Cagefighting Club Is...

Two out of the three plotlines for “Mr. Brightside” parts 1 and 2 were pretty drama-free: Alli had to trust her parents to like Dave for who he really is, and Holly J and Fiona found a way to give Dawn her kidney money. So, mostly happy endings in Degrassi-land. Even Drew and Katie seemed to have a growing flirtation. AND THEN DREW STARTED CAGEFIGHTING. More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with ‘Degrassi’: KC Gets a Guitar to the Face, and Sav’s Hot for Teacher

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': KC Gets a Guitar to the Face, and Sav's Hot for Teacher

We were right… sort of. We correctly guessed that the new season of teen TV would have a female teacher flirting with a male student. We just assumed it would be One Tree Hill and didn’t even think of Degrassi. But “Lose Yourself” parts 1 and 2 make it clear that Ms. Oh (“Call me Winnie”) has eyes for her student Sav. We can’t wait to see this plotline progress. Elsewhere, KC and Jenna are probably going to break up because they can’t handle Ty. (That, and he cheated on her with Marisol.) In the actual drama department, Clare fears for Jake‘s life while he works on the sets for Eli‘s play… especially when Eli does a creepy laugh and says, “He’ll be out of the picture soon enough.” Um, what?! The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with ‘Degrassi’: Removing Breasts and Getting Kidney Transplants

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': Removing Breasts and Getting Kidney Transplants

It only took thirteen episodes, but finally Degrassi: Now or Never has cycled around to Holly J, who really is the heart of the show. (That’s impressive, considering that she started out as the queen bee bitch.) Her failing kidneys have suddenly kicked into renal failure, which means that she needs a transplant, stat. Too bad she’s adopted! Yes, she just found this out. Meanwhile, Imogen gets Clare‘s permission to copy her mannerisms so she can get the role of “Clara” in Eli‘s play. Too bad he doesn’t want to date her when she’s not wearing Clare’s headband. Oh, and Adam wants top surgery so he’ll feel like more of a man. More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with ‘Degrassi’: Men and Women Can’t Be Friends!

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': Men and Women Can't Be Friends!

“Should’ve Said No” parts 1 and 2 were basically Degrassi‘s take on When Harry Met Sally: Dave and KC, both attached guys, tried to justify being friends with hot single girls, when it’s obvious that they want to cheat on their respective girlfriends. Meanwhile, Clare and Jake are playing out the No Strings Attached/Friends with Benefits game of “we can make out and it won’t mean anything” — except when he heads to the movies with Clare’s bitchy newspaper boss Katie. Although there weren’t any fistfights or drug comas, everyone was still in good, dramatic form this week. More »
