Crushable Questionnaire: Lil Twist

17-year-old mohawked rapper Lil Twist is a member of Lil Wayne’s Young Money label, which has a talented roster of artists including the hottest rapper of the moment, Drake. He’s also best friends with Justin Bieber. Not a bad crowd to run with if you’re heading toward stardom.

Twist is currently working on his debut album, tentatively titled, Don’t Get It Twisted, featuring collaborations from Young Money’s Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Drake, as well as Justin and Sean Kingston, who has been touring with Justin this summer. Twist took a moment off from recording to answer our Crushable Questionnaire.

What was your best date?

I’ve never been on a good date. I really don’t date a lot and the few times that I’ve been on dates it’s really like chilling and hanging out, nothing too special. So to all my female fans you still have a chance to be my first great date :) More »

What’s your backstory?

The straight and narrow path was never for me. I dropped out of high school when I was17 to hit the road with my former band Tourmaline. I played drums in that band for about 5 years. It wasn’t until the death of my father that I started to look at life from a different perspective. Eventually I decided that I had to step up to microphone and use my own songs as the emotional outlet I needed. More »

Crushable Questionnaire: Donora Lead Singer Casey Hanner

If you’re not familiar with Donora, chances are you will be soon. The Pittsburgh garage band is catching fire, and its catchy tunes like “I Think I Like You” and “The Chorus” are bound to cheer up any rainy day. Part of their cheerful vibe is singer Casey Hanner‘s bubbly voice and, after we asked her to fill out our Crushable Questionnaire we learned she’s not just an indie rock singer, she’s also an aspiring engineer (!). What’s your backstory?

Well, I grew up in a house full of music. My dad makes his living as a songwriter, musician, and producer. He had a studio in our basement growing up, which was right under my bedroom. So I can sleep through anything. I started playing guitar and writing songs when I was about 14. I went to college at the University of Delaware for civil engineering. And on my breaks, my brother and I started playing music together. We’ve been a band with our bass player for about 4 years now. I’m finishing up grad school right now in transportation engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. In fact I defend my thesis on Wednesday! More »
