Because god forbid you dress UNofficially like Harry Potter. More

Noted hot chick Adrienne Curry was hassled by security at Comic-Con for dressing like a well-known cartoon character(!) Click through for Curry’s all-too-accurate ensemble. More
My own particular nerdy tendencies have never reached dressing-up-as-beloved-fictional-characters heights, but I’m pretty impressed by those who DO venture into that territory. What better place, then, to showcase your lovingly-constructed masterpieces than San Diego Comic-Con, which incidentally is happening this weekend? We’ll bring you images of the best of this year’s SDCC costumes as soon as they start surfacing, but until then, in honor of the event, we bring you 13 of the most creative cosplay costumes we’ve ever seen from previous years. They’re not necessarily the most detailed of costumes (though a few are); but they all demonstrate some excellent outside-the-proverbial-box thinking. Who would you dress up as? Tell us in the comments! More
So you didn’t get to go to this year’s Comic-con. Does that mean this weekend you’re going to mope in your basement reading luckier fans’ twitter updates? No, because as a true nerd you’re creative enough to make your own fun. And if you’re drawing a blank, here are a few suggestions to help you have just as much fun as those people melting in their Pikachu outfits in California. More
We really wish we were based in California and could hop a train to San Diego this week. Alas, we’ll be posting Comic-Con coverage from afar, starting with this rundown of some of the stranger SDCC panels lined up for 2011. The full schedule is available on the official site, but we went through and came up with the screenings, how-tos, and discussions that — whether they were absurd, awesome, or unexpected — made us say, “Huh?” More
Have you guys heard about The Nerd Machine? They were behind the “Swamp Ass” PSA starring Nathan Fillion — how could you forget the visual of him shoving a hairdryer down his pants? — and deal with videos tackling the real issues that today’s geeks face. Their newest video, starring The Big Bang Theory‘s resident blonde Kaley Cuoco, is for the ladies: How to avoid the “who wore it best” awkwardness when a group of women arrives at a convention all wearing the Slave Leia outfit. Star Wars is great. It really is. It was a game changer for science fiction, and without it, it’s almost certain that the genre wouldn’t have developed the way it has in the years since. Further more, I grew up in a family full of nerds, so of course Star Wars was a big part of that (the Holy Nerd Trifecta being, of course, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings). But Star Wars mega-fans? No offense, but man, you guys freak me out. More

As we saw in last night’s Greek, sex and Star Wars are practically synonymous in a horny young boy’s mind. Ever since guys were old enough to get embarrassing boners in the middle of health class, they’ve been fantasizing about Carrie Fisher as “Slave Leia” from that 20 minute opening sequence in Return of the Jedi.
But while Star Wars porn is widely considered a male geek lover’s expertise, I know plenty of girls that get wet just by thinking of Harrison Ford and his laser blaster. So why not combine your mutual love of everything Dagobah and beyond and create a special night that will have you both seeing Death Stars? With that in mind, here’s our guide for women to making a sexy Star Wars evening. More
While Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows comes out today, some New Yorkers got an early taste of what this movie would like – minus the CGI and attractive British people – when some role-playing fans decided to “attack a muggle” in Grand Central Station. It’s weird that in a post-9/11 society, people can still get away with doing stuff like this without being tasered, but that’s the wonder of Harry Potter, I guess. More
These people are aware that they’re adults, right? Just checking. A group of Harry Potter cosplayers hit Grand Central Station to act out a scene involving He Who Shall Not Be.. er, Voldemort. And passersby seem pretty confused about the whole thing.

Nerds v. Jocks: The eternal battle. The concensus for many years was that nothing was hotter than a guy who played sports and belonged to a prestigious fraternity. But as emo boys became the rage and a bevy of charges lobbed against certain Greek houses made us wary of going to the campus’ hottest Halloween parties, we wondered if geeks might have finally won the war on novelty wear. Below, pics of dude cosplayers (the nerdiest of the nerds) along with photos of some hot frat boys in their underwear (which seems to constitute the majority of their costumes). Which do you think are hotter? More
