Five Columbia University students were arrested today for selling over $11,000 worth of pot, cocaine and LSD to undercover cops. The students, all male, were taken down in a five-month long sting called “Operation Ivy League” (anyone else suddenly feel like skanking?) that led to a massive raid of the NYC campus. One of the dealers is a guy named Jose Stephan Perez who, for some reason, goes by the name Stephan Vincenzo. “Stephan” is apparently a party promotor and head of an entertainment company that he runs out of his frat house. Oh, and he’s also an amateur model. Jose registered on the site Model Mayhem, where he’s posted 18 shots and claims to be “experienced.”

My post this week about my experience getting into Columbia University (How I Snuck Into The Ivy League. And You Can Too.) has sparked quite a debate in our comments section. Some people don’t believe a degree from General Studies counts as an actual degree from Columbia. One commenter even said it wasn’t the “same degree other people going to the REAL Columbia will get.” In fact, General Studies is an undergraduate college at the REAL Columbia, which places students in the same REAL classes with the same REAL teachers. Reader fromthesource defended the school and directed doubters to The School of General studies website as proof.

There is a simple piece of advice for college applicants that guidance counselors don’t tell you. You don’t need to get accepted by an Ivy League school to go to class there.

If you want to get a degree from that school, eventually you’ll need to get accepted, but there are ways around that too. I got rejected from Columbia University twice, but eventually sweet talked my way in. And got a degree for half the price of my classmates. More »
