Ladies Be Filmin’: Up All Night

Ladies Be Filminâ: Up All Night

The fall TV season is underway and, despite the ever-lower numbers of women in the writers’ rooms, it’s being hailed as the year of the women: 17 out of the 25 new scripted shows on the Big Five networks are female-centered and many were created by women. In this series, comedian Leila Cohan-Miccio watches the new female-centered shows and evaluates how realistic their portrayals of women actually are. And now, Up All Night. More »

‘The Change-Up’ May Seem Like Escapism for Guys, But It’s Actually a Female Fantasy

'The Change-Up' May Seem Like Escapism for Guys, But It's Actually a Female Fantasy

This year has already seen several comedies marketed to men in which belabored husbands get to take a break from marriage. You had Hall Pass early in the year, wherein Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis‘ wives gave them carte blanche for a whole week. Today’s big release is The Change-Up, in which Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman switch bodies. Not surprisingly, Reynolds gets the short end of the stick, while Bateman gets to run around as a hot single guy, and catch the attention of his crush Olivia Wilde.

However, both of these movies have one very important thing in common: The guy who’s all talk but never follows through. We’d go so far as to say he’s neutered… and the producers seem to be banking on him as the female moviegoers’ ultimate fantasy. More »

Good Idea or Bad Idea? A Show Called 'Good Christian Bitches'

It’s pilot season! That means that networks are casting their pilots for next season’s shows. One of these pilots is for a show called Good Christian Bitches. Here’s the scoop:

The dramedy, from Sex and the City executive producer Darren Star and based on Kim Gatlin’s book, follows a woman who moves back to her Dallas neighborhood after a divorce only to become the center of salacious gossip from the community’s church-going wives.

Since the show is going to be airing on ABC, that probably means they’ll have to water the title down a little bit a la fellow network series S*** My Dad Says. This isn’t HBO we’re dealing with here, people. So far, only actress Jennifer Aspen (pictured) has been cast after Christina Applegate reportedly turned down the lead. More »

Celeb Tweetup: Life’s A Hoot!

Celeb Tweetup: Life's A Hoot!

Well, at least some people out there are in a good mood on humpday. Do they even call it that in Hollywood? No one really works on a 9-5, Mon-Fri schedule there, so Wednesday would just be another day to get your nails done, go to the gym, and face-plant next to your pool. It’s all so funny, when you think about it! More »
