While it’s early August for the rest of us, it’s New Year’s Eve for the Real Housewives of New Jersey! Leading up to that night, the ladies try to work on their relationships. Jacqueline asks for her father’s advice in helping Ashley to grow up, which proves to be an arduous task. Teresa and her adorable daughters head to Melissa‘s for a play date, and while the kids run around, the grown-ups have a less-than-pleasant time. On this week’s episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey, we were treated to the aftermath of what happened in the previous week’s episode. Last week, we saw pot-stirrer Kim G arrive at the Gorgas’ holiday party with Monica Chacon, a lawyer involved in suing the Giudices. When Teresa displayed her discomfort over Monica’s presence at the party, Joe and Melissa asked her to leave. On episode nine of Real Housewives of New Jersey season three, it’s Christmas time in Jersey! The ladies prepare to celebrate the good old-fashioned way, with professional tree/house decorators and a humongous party with a step-and-repeat and real live carolers. It’s also Ashley‘s birthday, and we watch her grapple with the fact that her biological father wasn’t able to come up to celebrate. Things come to a head at Melissa and Joe‘s Christmas party, when Kim G shows up with a Giudice nemesis, Monica Chacon, who is the lawyer suing Joe Giudice. This is the first episode of  this season’s Real Housewives of New Jersey where we saw more of the Manzo/Laurita clan than the Giudice/Gorga/(somewhat) Wakile side. We were reminded how much we love the Manzo boys, and that Lauren also exists (just kidding, we love her, too). We also remembered why we dislike Ashley. There was some other stuff about Melissa and Kathy’s careers, too. More »

For the past few months, images like this have been showing up in New York subway stations. This is the work of vandal/artist Moustache Man. Moustache Man is known for one tag, and one tag only: He has gone around the New York subway system, covertly scribbling the word “moustache” in a distinctively curly hand over the upper lips of people pictured in advertisements. Everyone from Cameron Diaz to Mila Jovovich has been getting the moustache treatment, and you know what? I kind of dig it. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who gets a kick out of it, either. The tag is whimsical in a Magritte-esque, “This Is Not A Pipe” sort of way, and it’s made subway riding into a scavenger hunt (and who doesn’t love a scavenger hunt?). Perhaps more importantly, though, this is the kind of vandalism that I find hard to view as actual vandalism. Yes, technically speaking, all street art is vandalism; but that doesn’t mean it can’t be Art-with-a-capital-A at the same time. More »
