13 Actors Who Could Have Played Iconic Roles

13 Actors Who Could Have Played Iconic Roles

Severus Snape? Alan Rickman. Marty McFly? Michael J. Fox. Vivian Ward? Julia Roberts. We all know and love these characters, and their actors’ portrayals of them were so perfect, it can be hard to imagine anyone else playing them. But guess what? If things had gone a little differently, Alan Rickman might not have landed Snape, Michael J. Fox may not have donned Marty’s orange vest, and Julia Roberts may not have become one of the world’s most well-known prostitutes. That’s right: Each of these characters were originally pitched to different actors, and in some cases, were even recast midway through shooting. What other iconic characters might have ended up being played by totally different actors? Read on to find out! More »

Captain America’s Triumph Over Harry Potter Proves America Always Wins

Captain America's Triumph Over Harry Potter Proves America Always Wins

In 1776, the Second Continental Congress issued a declaration–a “Declaration of Independence,” one might even call it–that severed all of America’s ties to Great Britain and made everyone, well, very, very angry. Brazen to a fault, it sealed the fate of the thirteen colonies, throwing them into grisly battle with the mighty British Empire. In this case, as we all know, the dark horse triumphed and, in due time, the United States emerged as a super power, with Great Britain as its most trusted ally. Video: Guy Fieri and Professor Snape Brew a Mean Polyjuice Potion

It’s too bad that Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dementors can’t be a real thing, because this guy is killing it with his Guy Fieri impression. Really, it’s fitting that Guy and guest chef Severus Snape are whipping up some polyjuice potion, because these two imitations are both fantastic. You’ve got Guy rattling off his usual rhymes (“This is a funky, chunky, monkey, stunky, stinky brew”) and cooing over the “shredded boomslang skin” — and whoever plays Snape has Alan Rickman‘s sneering drawl down so perfectly that he should’ve stepped in for the Snape flashbacks in Deathly Hallows, Part 2. Meme Alert: "Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls"

Some of my favorite Internet memes are ones that add the perfect caption to a splendidly awkward photo, which is exactly what “Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls” does. Today Uproxx highlighted this relatively underground meme, which has only about twenty entries on Know Your Meme. You probably recognize the line from Titanic, when Kate Winslet tells Leonardo DiCaprio that she wants him to… well, you get the picture. More »

Alan Rickman’s Heartfelt Goodbye to ‘Harry Potter’ Letter Proves That Snape Has a Heart

Alan Rickman's Heartfelt Goodbye to 'Harry Potter' Letter Proves That Snape Has a Heart

Blame it on nostalgia from seeing the Harry Potter exhibition in Times Square last weekend, but I thought this letter from Alan Rickman, posted in last month’s Empire magazine, was so sweet. He speaks highly of the young stars who portrayed the famous trio — Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint — as well as J.K. Rowling, who managed to entice him to play Severus Snape with only three of the seven books. More »
