The Dos And Don'ts Of Drama, With Degrassi: Abandon The Freaks!

In “Underneath It All, Part 1,” it’s all about starting over in the fall semester: Fiona wants a fresh start and makes new friends who don’t know about her rehab stay; Clare and Jake might be ready for sex, but she has to consult a magazine to be sure; and Maya gets embroiled in the drama with Tori, Tristan, and Zig on her very first day. The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Eli’s Play Is… Well, It’s Certainly Dramatic

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with Degrassi: Eli's Play Is... Well, It's Certainly Dramatic

It’s opening night for Eli‘s semi-autobiographical play, and while he’s now made Clare the hero, Jake‘s the villain. Plus, poor Imogen is trying to get Eli to like her, but the mercurial playwright (who’s not taking his meds) won’t see her as anything but a shadow of Clare. Outside of the drama classroom, KC sabotages adoption proceedings, and Anya can’t seem to find any sort of career that fits her. (coughLARPercough) Curtains up! More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with ‘Degrassi’: Men and Women Can’t Be Friends!

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': Men and Women Can't Be Friends!

“Should’ve Said No” parts 1 and 2 were basically Degrassi‘s take on When Harry Met Sally: Dave and KC, both attached guys, tried to justify being friends with hot single girls, when it’s obvious that they want to cheat on their respective girlfriends. Meanwhile, Clare and Jake are playing out the No Strings Attached/Friends with Benefits game of “we can make out and it won’t mean anything” — except when he heads to the movies with Clare’s bitchy newspaper boss Katie. Although there weren’t any fistfights or drug comas, everyone was still in good, dramatic form this week. More »

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': Hurting Yourself and Role-Playing Will Get Your Crush to Like You

I hate Imogen. I can’t stand her. She’s supposed to be Eli’s saving grace after his break-up with Clare, but in “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” Parts 1 and 2, she just comes off as a bored sociopath. I’ll probably rant about how awful she is in a separate post, so let’s look at everyone else from the two-parter. Poor Clare kept trying to get an interview out of Eli. Zane was hurt after Riley went on a date with a girl and treated him as little more than a friend at his (Riley’s) birthday dinner. Marisol is flirting with KC at work, and worse yet, he’s letting her do it while Jenna languishes at home with baby Ty. Nobody can do anything right this week! More »

The Dos and Don’ts of Drama, with ‘Degrassi’: Macho, Macho Men… I Want to Be a Macho Man!

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': Macho, Macho Men... I Want to Be a Macho Man!

Kudos to Degrassi for not getting all “after-school special” on Adam’s transgender storyline. Last season he got beaten up for his “weirdness,” but the emotional bullying he’s run into in this episode alone is probably more disturbing than any hallway fight. Dave, who’s not that prejudiced, decides that he’s freaked out by sharing a radio show and a bathroom with Adam; he continually refers to Adam as a girl or a freak, and mocks him on-air. Dave really knows how to keep this show interesting. More »

The Dos and Don'ts of Drama, with 'Degrassi': Gang Wars and Lesbian Art Dates

Degrassi: Now or Never has begun! Crushable will be posting recaps every Wednesday and Friday — after each two-parter concludes in a shocking and/or sweet way. This week is a little different since it’s the beginning of the season; this recap covers the mini-movie “Spring Fever” and last night’s standalone episode “LoveGame.” In just a few episodes, we’ve got a corpse, a sullied reputation, a public confrontation, and lots of new love sprouting around. Hard to believe that last season’s finale was only a week or so ago in the Degrassi world! More »
