Of course you know who Melissa McCarthy is! The smart, sweet actress just won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. It’s especially touching since she and Joshua Jackson were the ones to announce the nominations, and we got to see her genuine excitement and terror at being nominated. But we don’t actually know a ton about Melissa despite her nearly 15 years in the biz. Here’s a quick catch-up! More

Go on Tumblr during last night’s Emmy Awards, and you’d see the site aflame with tearful and furious posts from Steve Carell‘s fans: He lost to Jim Parsons for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and since this was Steve’s last year on The Office, that means he’ll go home having never won an Emmy for his work as Michael Scott. (This was his sixth nomination in the same category.) More

Sometime before the Emmys telecast, Martin Scorsese and Heather Morris ended up on the red carpet at the same time. She seems to be laughing at a joke the famous director made, or maybe it’s because at this angle he looks like a hobbit. Reaction shots — they’re what get us through awards shows, especially the snoozefest that was the 2011 Emmys. Jane Lynch tried to keep things moving with her monologues and musical bits, but the real entertainment was when stars either responded to her jokes or got really excited about the winners. Go Canada! Neverending teen soap Degrassi: The Next Generation garnered an Emmy nomination this morning, for last season’s episode “My Body Is a Cage, Part 2″ starring Jordan Todosey as a transgender teen struggling with his gender identity. This iteration of Degrassi has been running for ten years, and the franchise has been around since 1979, so the attention is well-deserved. Curiously, the series is nominated within the category of Outstanding Children’s Program. More
