Last year when Allison Williams was doing the talk show circuit to promote Girls, she made a point of letting everyone know that producer Judd Apatow decided to hire her after seeing her sing a version of the Mad Men theme song on YouTube. But it wasn’t until last night, well into Season 2, that we saw her actually sing. And she was notably terrible. Is this Judd Apatow’s version of a long con? More

Today is the premiere of Len Wiseman‘s Total Recall. Considering that the whole world thinks of Arnold Schwarzenegger every time the words Total Recall are uttered, Colin Farrell has some big biceps to fill. And considering the original is not known for much scientific/plot consistency, some of the more outlandish leaps that this remake achieves are pretty impressive. Here are some of the more ridiculous things that happen in this version of Total Recall.
Step Up Revolution opens today. This is the fourth installment in this dance franchise. And as I keep learning every time I talk about it, a lot of people have never seen any of these movies. Not only did this series effectively launch Channing Tatum‘s career (and marriage), but these dance movies consistently deliver amazing movie theater diversions. And if you haven’t been watching them, you are majorly missing out. More
There are a lot of things wrong with Woody Allen‘s latest movie. To Rome With Love is a series of vignettes set in Rome that deal in magical realism, escapism and broad stereotypes. But the biggest misstep might be casting Ellen Page as a femme fatale who steals Jesse Eisenberg from Greta Gerwig. Who let Woody Allen do that? More
Rosemary DeWitt is great in Your Sister’s Sister. She was great in Rachel Getting Married. And she was also terrific as Don’s artist/hippie mistress on Mad Men. She’s the kind of actress who always makes an impact but never lands the lead. And this movie isn’t likely to help.
For the past five seasons of Mad Men, Christina Hendricks‘ Joan Holloway has been using sex to get ahead in life. And on last night’s episode, she finally got paid for it. More
There are a lot of women on Mad Men who use sex as a weapon. Some more successfully than others. But last night on the show, we learned how much show creator Matthew Weiner thinks the sexual revolution must have confused the women of the 1960s. Why?
Because we met a woman named Lakshmi (Anna Wood) who eschewed marriage and monogamy for free love and a life in the Hare Krishna movement. But then she tried to ply Harry Crane with her hot sex moves and it totally backfired. More
On Sunday night at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s management pulled a move we’re referring to as The Reverse Pop Star: they tried to make her look much younger than her age. Usually young female pop stars arrive on stage at awards shows wearing almost no clothing (See: Miley Cyrus) and generally trying to look a lot older than they are.
But Carly took the complete opposite approach. More
You know how sometimes you walk out on a cool night and can’t decide if you need a jacket or not? Well, tonight Miley Cyrus created a style hack to that age old question by showing up to the 2012 Billboard Music Awards in a tuxedo jacket. With nothing underneath it. More
Lola Versus premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday night. It is the fourth time that Greta Gerwig has been introduced as a potential studio star. And luckily for her, this is likely to be a movie that people … More
President Barack Obama was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, and it was a love fest all around. The man actually walked on to the stage with The Roots playing “I’m So In Love With You.” But it didn’t stop there. Because Jimmy and his team decided to let the President slow jam the news. More
Last night was the premiere of ABC’s Don’t Trust The B– In Apartment 23. We’ve already discusses our fascination with James Van Der Beek playing a meta version of himself. But the former Dawson’s Creek star isn’t the only one playing a tripped out version of himself on the show. Tate Ellington shows up on the first episode as the fiance of June (Dreama Walker), the nice Midwestern girl who ends up in the apartment of the titular “B.” In real life, Tate is actually getting married next month.
Last night on Mad Men, we learned some new facts about our man Don Draper. For starters, we learned that you can teach an old dog new tricks. But he might need to get naked and kill a bitch if you want him to be monogamous. More
