Mae Whitman is joining the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix. When I heard this news, I immediately thought, “Her?” But only because I’m still Arrested Development trash. Once I got that out of my system, my second thought was that Mae Whitman played Lauren Graham’s daughter on Parenthood, and Lauren Graham is on Gilmore Girls, where she plays the mother of Alexis Bledel. INCEPTION… or something.
According to TV Line‘s report on the casting, it doesn’t sound like Mae will have a very big role on the show, so if you were a fan of Parenthood, you don’t have to worry about too much confusion over what show you’re watching. Here’s how the site describes Mae’s appearance: “She shares a really fun (albeit small) moment with Graham that will delight Parenthood fans.”
Sounds like the show’s gonna go a little meta on us. My guess is the same will be true of Sutton Foster’s character in the revival. Unless they just decide to go full-on crossover universe on us and have her play her Bunheads character Michelle again. Which would be confusing because Kelly Bishop is on both shows. Ahh, it’s too confusing. My brain hurts, but I’m also feeling like I could ace a round of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon right now.
Anyway, back to Mae Whitman. She’s apparently already a big fan of the show. Last year she met her daughterly nemesis in person and shared the above photo on Twitter. Then when the revival was announced, she congratulated Lauren by inserting her own face into the cast photo.

So yeah, I think it’s safe to say that she’s excited to be a part of the show. I mean, it’s as Ann as the nose on Plain’s face. (Sorry, I just had to.)
