Nothing warms the cockles of my ’90s heart quite like Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s enduring friendship since they starred in Titanic together. It’s like she never even pried his cold dead hand out of hers back in the day. Kate is so loyal to her boy that she’s even willing to overlook her Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender’s Oscar nomination to declare that it’s totally Leo’s year, and she’s excited about it.
Speaking to BBC News, Kate had this to say about Leo’s chance of finally, finally getting that much-coveted Oscar this year and putting an end to all those delightful memes:
“I think you can sort of feel it, and I think that everyone wants it for him. It would be amazing. It would just be amazing. But it’s also slightly difficult for me too, because Michael Fassbender has been nominated, and of course I was his right-hand woman for three months whilst we were making Steve Jobs, and I saw how hard he worked, and I think his performance is so extraordinary. But I think you can sort of feel the temperature. It’s probably going to be Leo’s year.”
Sorry, Fassy. It doesn’t matter how extraordinary your performance (or your junk) is. Nothing comes between Jack and Rose. Well, except a sinking ship. And freezing water. And that stupid goddamn piece of wood. But other than that, NOTHING.
I just want everyone to remember that Kate Winslet is also nominated for an Oscar this year, for Best Supporting Actress, and she won the Golden Globe in that category just last week, so there’s a very good chance that she and Leo will be Oscar winners in the same year. Just imagine the cute pictures they could pose for together! If we’re lucky, maybe they’ll make their Oscars kiss. Even we’re really, really lucky, maybe they’ll recreate the prow scene. Maybe they’ll even get married!
Okay, I’ll stop.
