A Baby Is About to Replace Anne Hathaway’s Oscar as the Thing She Loves Most

Anne Hathaway Adam Shulman New York City April 2015

It came true!

That’s right, E! News is reporting that Anne Hathaway is pregnant with her first child with husband of three years Adam Shulman. Two sources have apparently confirmed the news, with one of them adding that “Anne is in her second trimester and feeling great!”

E! has photos of Anne out and about this week sporting a baby bump under her sweater. Either that or she just ate a lot at Thanksgiving dinner and this is all a big, awkward misunderstanding. But I’m banking on it being a baby.

Anne has said several times over the years that she wants kids. In 2012, she told Vogue the following about her desire to be a mom:

“I want to be a mother, and I anticipate loving my children quite fiercely. I think about it all the time, though it’s a silly thing to think about because the kind of mother I’ll be depends on the kind of children I have. I can’t wait to meet them.”

Looks like Anne’s beloved Oscar is about to get some stiff competition in the love and attention department. I mean, I’m not saying I think Anne Hathaway keeps her Oscar statue bundled up in a cradle and rocks it to sleep every night while singing “I Dreamed a Dream,” but that’s exactly what I’m saying.

But really, in all sincerity, requisite snark aside, I’m very happy for Anne. When I first read the news, I could literally feel my heart smiling. It was a very strange feeling. I’m thinking of seeing a doctor about it. Oh, and by the way, I’m calling it right now — if it’s a girl, they’re naming it Fantine. Mark my words. Possible names for a boy include Jean Valjean and 24601.

But perhaps the most important part of this story is that Anne will finally have someone to join her book club. Oh happy day!
