I just want to say that I’m sorry for the blow that your Snark’s is about to take, but it’s about to fall in love with Taylor Swift. This strange feeling (Happiness? True and honest joy? Indigestion?) has been creeping up on us all for a while now. But no one will be more taken aback by this than your Snark, after reading Taylor’s ridiculously heartfelt Instagram message to a bullied fan. Your heart will manage and your throat will be fine once that burning I-just-might-cry feeling goes away. But take one last look at your Snark, my friend. Because in a few moments, it’ll be useless and just being in the same room as it will make you feel dirty.
A few days ago, Taylor noticed that one of her fans had become the victim of bullying. Taylor, who’s talked about how she was bullied in school in the past, apparently felt connected to the teen’s hardship and left her a comment on Instagram. And while she’s commented on plenty of her fans’ Instagram accounts before, none were as genuinely sweet as this one. Sure, they were super casual and all, “hayyy grl, it’s ur BFFL Tay Tay ♥.” But this one is potentially life-changing and most definitely tear-inducing.
The comment itself is pretty long (because when Taylor superheroes, she superheroes hard) and can be read in full over on Cosmo. But here are my favorite cynic-busting bits.
“This made me so sad because I love seeing you in your videos and photos being so happy and wide eyed, like the world isn’t as harsh and unfair as it actually is. I hate thinking about your pretty face covered in tears, but I know why you’re crying because I’ve been in your place.
You’re a target because you live your life loudly and boldly. But the only way they win is if your tears turn to stone and make you bitter like them.
I’m so proud of you and protective of you because you DO.
Every time someone picks on me, I’ll think of you in the hopes that every time someone picks on you, you’ll think of me… and how we have this thread that connects us. Let them keep living in the darkness and we’ll keep walking in the sunlight.”
Taylor, GIRL. You’re killing me. But more importantly, you’re killing my will to snark. Who gave you permission to turn my “bah, humbug” into an “ahh, humbug”? It’s rude and terrible, but at least I’ll finally stop getting so much coal for Christmas.
