It might have slipped your mind in the midst of all the nude photo drama this weekend, but I’ll go ahead and remind you that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are now married. They tied the knot last weekend in France with all 87 of their kids present. (Scratch that, I’m now being told they only have six kids. Easy mistake to make.)
The upcoming issue of People magazine has photos from the wedding, including a cover photo of Angelina’s wedding dress. If it looks to you like there’s been something embroidered into her veil and the back of the gown, you’d be right. Those are her kids’ drawings. They were sewn into the dress by Luigi Massi, tailor at Atelier Versace.
Here’s why that’s absolutely genius. If anyone criticizes Angie’s dress (and it is kind of blah, let’s admit it), all she has to say to them is, “Oh really? My kids did this.” And then maybe for effect she can bring out little Shiloh or Knox to pout up at the critic like, “Don’t you like my drawing?” BOOM! Criticism revoked. Plus, this is Angie’s third marriage, and she and Brad have already been together for almost a decade, so I think she can get away with doing something unconventional and family-oriented. Also, there’s a good chance her kids would have started drawing on the dress at the ceremony anyway (BIG WHITE SPACE, MUST COVER IT IN MARKER), so might as well give them a head start.
According to People, each child had a role to play during the wedding. Maddox and Pax walked Angelina down the aisle, Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls, and Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers. They also helped write the vows, and Pax apparently baked the cake. He’s 10, by the way. He’ll probably be opening his own bakery within two years, you mark my words.
Here’s what the couple had to say about their big day:
“It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of laughter,” Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, tell PEOPLE. “It was such a special day to share with our children and a very happy time for our family.”
Congrats again, you two. And nice job on the dress, kids.
