9 Times The Kardashians Pretended They Know What Work Is

Happy Labor Day! You know, the day every year that pays tribute to the contributions of workers around the country. Labor. Work. In other words, the thing the Kardashians think they do. For a family known for “being famous for being famous,” they sure do think of themselves as hard workers. Even though that work mostly entails having cameras follow them around while they drink each other’s breast milk.

So in honor of this holiday, we thought we’d round up some prime examples of the Kardashians (which includes the Jenners, of course) pretending they not only understand what working is, but actually partake in it. And not only partake in it, but partake in it hard. All those Instagram photos aren’t going to post themselves, people! And yeah, these mostly come from Kim, because the rest of the family can’t get a word in edgewise.

1. When Kim talked about balancing work and motherhood.

“She [Kris] taught us if you work hard, it’s just all about prioritizing and I think that, yeah, it could get tough and after you have a baby, there are so many times I didn’t want to get up and work on something and I wanted to be home with my baby, but, you know, for me, I think I can speak for my sisters, it makes us feel good when we are out working and we can provide something for our friends and products that, you know, we can’t find that we really want.”

This was in response to the classic question of whether or not women can “have it all.” Why Kim Kardashian, a woman without a 9 to 5 job who’s rich enough to pay nannies to care for her children when she’s away, is being asked this question in the first place is beyond me. I wonder if Kim also wishes she were home with her baby when she’s busy texting at the VMAs.

2. When Kendall said her fame keeps her from getting jobs.

“People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn’t take me seriously as a model. Because of the TV show. I went on castings and some people weren’t feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn’t recognize me. I was like, ‘Thank you. Please don’t recognize me.’”

That’s right. Kendall Jenner thinks being on a reality show hurt her modeling career, as if she would ever have one in the first place if she weren’t on a reality show. Even if you argue she’s still gorgeous enough to model, she would not be on magazine covers and in high profile runway shows.

3. When Kendall and Kylie talked about the novel they “wrote.”

“We did it, and we had a co-writer who helped us, Maya Sloan, because we obviously can’t write a sci-fi novel on our own, so we had some help but it was a fun experience and we enjoyed doing it.”

When they say they “did it,” they mean the put together a two-page outline and let Maya Sloan watch them text their friends for inspiration. Yet they got their names on the cover and signed the books as if they were the authors.

4. When Kris Jenner called Kim the “hardest working young lady in the world.”

“And Kim Kardashian is the hardest-working young lady in the world. She never sleeps, she never stops, she never slows down and works so hard for what she’s got.”

This was Kris’ response to President Obama’s criticism of Kim and Kanye’s lifestyle. Really, Kris? You’re really going to say that? Hardest-working young lady. In the world. Not even “in the Kardashian family” or “in a room alone with herself.” Those are the words you want to use? #Sigh.

5. When Kim said filming her reality show is “hard work.”

“The biggest misconception about my family and me is that we’re lazy. I work hard; the show is a full-time job. Sometimes I don’t think people realize that – we work 7am until 7pm on the program. We do so much, we work on the show, on fragrances, on our fashion line – there’s a lot.”

Newsflash, Kim! There are very many people who work even longer hours than that, at even more inconvenient times of day, and they spend that time doing things that are much more difficult and draining and even dangerous than having a guy film you and your sisters participate in a vagina smell-off. Shocking, I know.

6. When Kim said being privileged made her work harder.

“We grew up with privilege so we knew our standards were high … [and] if we wanted to keep it, we had to work hard.”

Thanks, Kim. I’m sure all the people who weren’t handed money as soon as they were born and now have to work multiple jobs and live paycheck to paycheck just to maintain a very low standard of living really appreciate you saying that.

7. When Kim told Rob she’s never been given anything.

”You say you want something, well, no one ever gave me anything, like, I worked.”

This is what Kim told Rob on an episode of their reality show. What happened to that whole “grew up with privilege” thing, Kim? I’ll just leave my jaw on the floor right here and walk away.

8. And then when Kim defined working hard as asking her mom for stuff.

”I’ve always been, like, the type, like, to hustle and do it on your own, so I feel like sometimes when you want help, I’m like, you’re not directing us. I told mom ‘This is exactly what I want to do,’ and she made it happen. We would all help you if you had a little more guidance to us.”

In the same episode where she claimed she was never given anything, she says the above quote, in which she both claims to do it on her own and have her mom do it for her.  Is this real life?

9. When Kim said she shares her life publicly to help her as a businesswoman.

“We did it for the thought of bringing publicity and awareness to our clothing store, so fashion has always been our number one… You know, we are businesswomen, we’re entrepreneurs.”

OPPOSITE! She’s as bad as Kendall. Hellooo, Earth to Kim Kardashian. You wouldn’t have any of those brands if you weren’t in the public eye to begin with.
