The Douches Of 4chan Are Encouraging Women To Share Naked Photos In Support Of J.Law

Jennifer Lawrence attending X Men premiere party May 2014

By now you’ve most likely heard the news that alleged nude photos of several female celebrities have been posted online due to phone hacking. Some of the victims, like Ariana Grande, have denied the photos’ authenticity. Jennifer Lawrence’s reps, however, have condemned this as a “violation of privacy.” But that’s not stopping the people of the Internet from being trolling douches about the whole thing.

According to Buzzfeed, members of 4chan, the website where the photos seem to have first been published, tried to use the leak to encourage women to post their own naked photos online, under pretense of it being in “solidarity” with J.Law. One anonymous user called it the “worldwide trolling of a lifetime” and explained that “hundreds of thousands of girls” (wow, talk about delusional) would post nude photos of themselves to social media while holding up signs reading “Solidarity for Jennifer.” They further explained that it should seem like a way to “combat the patriarchal savagery of men on the internet.” I believe what we have here is an example of irony.

Some users even tried to get the hashtag #LeakForJLaw going by creating fake Twitter accounts and posting photos of nude women. However, the trend hasn’t exactly caught on, and the hashtag is largely being used to criticize or mock the attempt. For instance, some men have shared topless photos of themselves as a joke, while other users have predicted that it’s 4chan trolling:

So apparently it’s not enough to steal someone’s private photographs and spread them around the Internet. Why stop there when you can use the leak to get even more naked photos out of it? Because boobs. It’s stuff like this that really causes an unhealthy drop in my faith in humanity levels.

Someone should tell her it’s ok. A lot of people have their nudes online and she’s a great actress and it probably won’t hurt her career. I’m so disgusted by those guys and no one should support them (because sending your nude won’t make Jlaw any happier) and just don’t post your nude to those creeps.

      • VincentVonDudler

Don’t tell her it’s ok. Show her it’s ok. #leakforjlaw

Douchebag misogynists. Get your mommy issues worked out, infants.

      • arqoi

You need to read up on what the definition of misogynist is. You’re not using that word correctly.

      • Fale

Quiet. She might be “oppressed” by what you just said.

      • KingMayuke

        muh triggers

      • M_G

“Misogynist: a person who hates, dislikes, mistrusts, or mistreats women.” Now granted, Elizabeth and I rarely see eye to eye on….well…..anything, really, but in this instance, she is, in fact, using the word correctly.

      • Guest

People named Elizabeth Aspen are my trigger. Can you please leave and never post here again?

      • PleuraDispensor

        noun: misogynist; plural noun: misogynists
a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women.

I don’t think any misogynist would be asking for nudes of women. I think that constitutes something far from hate

      • Alexis Rhiannon

        Ohhhh boy.

      • M_G

Oh? You don’t think a misogynist would try to degrade women by making them vulnerable to being taken advantage of? So a misogynist is only someone who goes around screaming “I HATE WOMEN RAWWRR!!”? Just making sure I’m clear on your understanding of the word.

      • PleuraDispensor

Perhaps the ones who carried out this plan are actually very in love with the female form, and wish to appreciate it in an artistic way. Please stop claiming that anyone who does something that you see as “wrong” is a misogynist.

      • M_G

I don’t. But there is no way on this planet I believe for one second that the trolls who perpetuated this idea are “lovers of the female form”. At least not in the way you’re describing. At best, they are creeps who are exploiting the situation to try and get women to post topless pics for them to ogle.

    • Elizabeth Aspen

Not blaming the victims here – everyone has a right to not have their phone hacked – but I don’t understand why anyone would take nude pictures of themselves using a phone – celebrity or not. They actually still sell cameras in stores today, and from what I understand, these inventions aren’t hooked up to the internet so you can take your nudies and put the camera in a drawer and not have to worry about hacking.

      • Viola

My guess is that most people who take nude selfies of themselves do it for the purpose to share or send to a significant other. If you’re in a long distance relationship you can send the picture within seconds. Using email there’s still a risk of being hacked. So do you wait a month until the other person gets home and say “look at the pictures on the memory card in the drawer”? No, you send it over, preferably using your phone since it today seems unbearable to be without one, for good or bad. My two cents.

Just in case you were off planet when the Edward Snowden scandal came to light, there is really no such thing as 100% secure file storage if its connected to the internet. Especially if you use any third party storage… I store EVERYTHING on a portable hard drive… and dis-connect it when I am not using it.. You can get a terabyte portable hard drive for around $150.00, I never have to worry about losing anything or anyone stealing my files…and I don’t pay a monthly fee..

Hell, I don’t even really use my “smart phone”. My old dumb-one is good enough for me and its cheaper. It’s a waste of money just like so many other things in America like student loans (get a cheap education!), expensive car insurance (my $25/month policy from Insurance Panda is good enough for me), and fast food (who wants to pay $10 for a Chipotle burrito?!?).

Also – One way to completely ensure there are no photos of yourself that could wind up in an embarrassing situations is to NOT take them. Seems pretty logical to me…

      • CMJ

“Not blaming the victims here”….BUT….yeah, you’re totally blaming the victims.

    • Fale

Anybody who don’t like their nudes to be posted online should not make one in the first place.

      • Vera

And anybody who doesn’t want their car stolen should not get one in the first place.

      • ry

No, following the ‘really logic’ train of thought, Anybody who doesn’t want their car stolen should probably lock it.

      • M_G

Except locking the car doesn’t mean it won’t get stolen, just like deleting the pics (which most of the celebs did) doesn’t mean they won’t be found. So, no, Vera is right on the money. But thanks for playing.

      • Vera

Oh, did these actresses give away their account passwords to the sexual offender hacker? No, they didn’t. So, their account was locked, no?

Seriously, now. If a criminal hacker stole their identity, social security, credit card info online, everyone would be up in arms. Since it’s private images, eh, it’s “really a crime” and “they deserved it anyway”. That distinction is unbelievably flawed.

So it’s still shitty logic to me (and judging by the upvotes), it’s shitty logic to everyone else.

i love how whenever something pops up about 4chan it’s ONLY ever about the board /b/…though /b/ causes problemos it’s thought that /b/ is the only board 4chan has

So how many degrees in journalism and literature do you have? Because judging by this article, I’d guess at a very generous -3.

      • M_G

I agree. Any good recommendations for her for colleges? Perhaps she can go to the same one where you got your Ph.D. in Anonymous Trolling? They obviously taught you well.

      • Nbl

I believe I am developing a serious personality crush on you.

:-) Back at you! Reading through your comments, we definitely think a lot alike.

Thought she looked hot in the pictures. I bet this will start a trend of ‘leaked’ images.

” It’s stuff like this that really causes an unhealthy drop in my faith in humanity levels.”

Really? Something as irrelevant as this, as opposed to (for example) genocide during the Bosnaina war or 14 year old children in Africa being paid pennys for a days work for companies that make billions?

This, and things like this, above all, make you loose faith in humanity?

      • M_G

        A) This is a celebrity gossip website. Go elsewhere if you’re looking for hard hitting news stories and political diatribes.

        B) The author never actually said that “This, and things like this, above all” made her lose her faith in humanity, but excellent job of twisting the quote and putting words in her mouth. I mean, it’s great that you are cool with this type of behavior and all, but obviously she is not.

      • FemelleChevalier

And is “unhealthy drop in my faith in humanity levels” the same as “losing faith in humanity”? That’s like saying being tipsy and being blind-drunk is the same since both involves alcohol, yes?

      • coffeeandshoes

I will add to the so-called irrelevance here and wonder for the thousandth time in a month – at what point did the word ‘lose’ become such a challenge to use correctly?

    • Kerrian Walker

Oh look, a woman wrote the article. No surprise then.

      • M_G

…and that matters because….? Are you saying a male author would be in support of this trolling?

Thank you for coming to a celebrity gossip website and then critiquing the author for not adhering to the business model you have in your head. Everyone definitely comes to Crushable looking for the hard-hitting news stories and political exposés, so good for you for calling her out. Josh, you are not hero we deserve, but you are the one we need right now.

Here is a bigger issue. As user-friendly technology has become more pervasive our understanding of it has become much lower. We just tap a button and voila, done. We’re now storing sensitive materials in locations that we have no control over. This is the message that needs to be spread. The damage has been done but the damage does not need to keep happening.

      • M_G

        This is an excellent point!
