Here’s an update on the whole Kendall Jenner modeling thing: She’s still doing it. Not only that, but she has now decided to drop her last name for her career. People magazine reports that according to the casting sheet for her modeling agency, she’ll just be known as Kendall now. You can’t see it, but I’m currently staring into a nonexistent camera Office-style. It’s really the perfect occasion to use such a reaction, don’t you think?
The way I see it, there are two reasons Kendall has made this career move, and they’re both evidence of what little self-awareness she possesses. The first reason is that she thinks she’s on par with fellow one-named models like Gisele, Iman, etc., and that her first name is somehow unique enough that she doesn’t need a pesky surname to identify her. Granted, if you said the name “Kendall” to me without context, I’d probably figure it was Kendall Jenner, but I’m unhealthily knowledgeable about the lives of the Kardashians. And Kendall did not make our list of celebrities who could get away with dropping their last names, so she doesn’t have permission to do this. Sorry.
The other reason she might be doing this is that she’s under the impression that her famous family is making it harder for her to get jobs. Yeah sure, on Opposite Day, maybe. Here’s what she recently said about the matter:
“People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn’t take me seriously as a model. Because of the TV show.”
She also said she prefers it when people at castings didn’t recognize her. (What rock are they living under?!) I hate to break it to Kendall, but dropping her last name is not going to prevent people from knowing who she is. I can totally understand being embarrassed to have Kris Jenner as your mom, but she will never be able to escape it. We know who you are, Kendall. We know where you come from. We see you. [insert evil cackle]
