Ariana Grande Denies Calling Her Ex Gay, Even Though She Very Clearly Did

Ariana Grande I'm awkward and weird GIFCan someone please get Ariana Grande a foot to put in her mouth? Something has to stop her from going completely off the rails and trying to deny quotes that came out of her very own interviews.

She’s been promoting her new album My Everything – out today! — for weeks now, and in a recent interview for Attitude, she explained her inspiration for the song ‘Break Your Heart Right Back’:

“It’s about a boy who cheats on a girl with another boy. That’s a very fun concept. Well, originally it was going to be about a boy who cheats with a girl, but then I was like, ‘No, I want it to be about a boy who cheats on a girl with another boy’.”

Okay cool, so we’re all clear that this song is about a boy cheating on a girl with another boy. No way that this could be misinterpreted, right? Great. So then read this next quote that she gave to Metro about the same song and you’ll immediately understand why everyone is going through Ariana’s past relationships like a Rolodex trying to find the one that ended because of a gay affair:

“It’s one of my favorites on the album and it’s really funny because I believe it has happened to me. I’m not 100% positive but I’m 99.9% per cent positive.”

Uhhhh yeah sounds pretty clear to me. Seems like she’s saying pretty openly that she’s pretty sure someone she dated cheated on her with a guy. A point that she sweetens even further by continuing:

“I would rather he cheats on me with a guy than with a girl any day! If I found out my boyfriend was gay, I would be like ‘OK!’ I’d be so relieved.”

First of all, that’s nonsense, because it makes it seem like you take homosexual relationships less seriously, but WHATEVER. Bottom line, we live in a world where understanding is based on logic, and there’s no way you can deny that Ariana just 99.9% outed a former boyfriend of hers.

Except Ariana’s trying to do just that, which is insane. In a video interview with Entertainment Tonight, she accuses reporters (on both the publications I guess? working as one for a single nefarious purpose??) of twisting her words and taking them out of context. Uh-huh.

Ariana: “People took my quote and made a headline out of it — I know what ya’ll do. [...] They twisted it, though. That is not what I said. I said ‘Break Your Heart Right Back’ is about a boy who cheats on a girl with a boy. I never said my ex cheated on me with a boy.”

Not in the same interview…but yes, you did.

Interviewer: “But you said 99% you’re sure that it’s happened to you before.”

Ariana: “In the past! I never said my ex!”

What girl what? What is going on in that brain of yours under that half pony and those cat ears? You need to pull it together.

Interviewer: “Okay, so not this ex, but you know ex it’s happened –”

Ariana: “It wasn’t even an ex, really. We were sort of dating for like a minute. It wasn’t a big deal. [...] It was kind of funny. I wasn’t like heartbroken over it. I was like ‘okay werk!’”

No! No no no no no! You do not get to backtrack like this and try to be the girl who wasn’t even bothered by the breakup! You can be the heartbroken girl who gets a hit song about it, you can be the girl who dated a gay guy, or you can be the girl who brushes off a cheating ex. YOU CANNOT BE ALL THREE. What do you think, we’re dumb or something? We see you, girl.

At the end of every interview, the interviewer should yell “NO TAKE BACKS!” right before leaving so Ariana knows she can’t do this shit anymore.

        Hahaha “I was on base!”

i think i would be more ok with a guy cheating with a guy because if it was with a girl i would think it was something missing but not know what that missing thing was, But if he cheated with a guy i would know the thing i was missing was a dick, unless of corse he was bi or pan then we would be back at square what-did-i-do-wrong.
ps i know this doesn’t make sense i have bad english sorry.

Agreed. I would feel better about finding out that my partner was gay because then I wouldn’t think it was about me. If he cheated with another girl, I would be jealous and insecure, but if he cheated with a man, then there was nothing “wrong” with me, he’s just not into my gender. (“Wrong” in quotes bc I know there doesn’t have to be anything wrong with someone to be cheated on. Just personal insecurities.)

Yes thank you I’m not very eloquent but you thankfully are and got the point i was trying to make

the real question here is: why is she wearing cat ears?

      • Alyssa

Hop off cat ears, they are the best, I wear them on the regular. She’s just tainting them.

    • guest

I could never take this girl seriously

It seems like since crushable now likes taylor swift they now need someone else to rag on.

      • Papillon

It seems like you are new here, otherwise you would know they have been ‘ragging’ on her for a long time.

She’s a young girl who is bound to make mistakes on the PR trail. Despite all that, what I believe she’s doing is trying to let us know that she’s cool with gay people (after all her bro is openly gay). Also, she’s an amazing talent with a great voice. Cut her some slack.

I think she is just dumb and there’s nothing she can do or say to fix it.

    • Vera

Every interview she gives just show she’s a little idiot. *sorry not sorry for being offensive*

I used to really like Ariana – now, not so much. I agree with you; she’s not this innocent sweetheart she likes to pretend to be all the time. I’m just waiting for every single person she’s ever worked with to expose her true colours, like how Alexander DeLeon did.

    • A

Like, this is twisted, but I don’t think she’s definitely lying. Why can’t she be relate to this song due to a short relationship? Maybe she was interested, but not in a committment to ‘go steady’. Can you call someone like that an ex?

Anyway Wikipedia says she didn’t write this song.

Get over it, damn! Just let the girl live? She’s on top & making money & is happy with who she is at the moment. Why do people keep ragging on her for the most trivial things?

      • Alexis Rhiannon

I’m glad she’s happy with who she is! I’m happy with who I am, but people can still call me out when they think I say something dumb! (Kind of like you’re doing right now!)

      • L.M.S.

I get it, but I don’t think what she said is necessarily dumb. Why do we think that just because someone says something that doesn’t make sense to us, it automatically makes it dumb? The things she says are a little peculiar, but they don’t negatively influence people or harm her brand. By the way, I fully understand that you have a job to do. I just hate when people rag on her for no valid reason.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

That’s totally fair, but for me, the things she says DO influence me negatively, and that’s why I share my thoughts on them.

    • DREAMZ

Another reason I can’t stand her. When they were asking about it she was like I know what ya’ll do like the did that on purpose! It’s not our fault that your sentences come out stupid! She was acting like they already knew it was fake but they did that because they wanted drama. She is trying to hard, she needs to shut up.
