I knew that this new mature Taylor Swift whose only concerns were her post-gym outfits and giving advice to her fans couldn’t last long — it looks like the drama-drama one who uses songs to take potshots at old boyfriends is back. Hurray!
Taylor premiered her new song ‘Shake It Off’ via an annoyingly long but disturbingly likable livestream, and the first time through the song and the video, I was too distracted by Taylor’s clever concept and wide variety of costumes to notice much else. But the second time through, I listened a little more carefully to that little rap section in the middle (Taylor loves a good spoken interlude), which goes a little something like this:
“My ex man brought his new girlfriend. She’s like ‘oh my gosh’ I’m just gonna shake.”
Pretty normal so far, right? Could be about any or all of her ex-boyfriends! Well what about this next part, which seems to point pretty specifically at one person in particular that she’s dated:
“And to the fella over there with the hella good hair. Won’t you come on over baby, we can shake, shake, shake.”
If this were just me puzzling it out on my own, I probably wouldn’t have made the connection that Taylor was referring to Harry here, which is where Hollywood Life comes in. They have a source who insists that the ‘hella good hair’ remark refers to Harry Styles, meaning that his new girlfriend that he brought was Kendall Jenner.
“She has a line that is very specific to Harry. When she talks about her ex bringing his new girlfriend that’s Harry and Kendall.”
There it is! There’s that shade we’ve missed so much! Welcome back, Taylor! We’re glad to have you.
