The 10 Times You’re Going To Tear Up During The Mockingjay Part I Trailer

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 trailer 'I am, I will' At long last, the moment has arrived — a trailer for Mockingjay Part I has finally been released. (At San Diego Comic Con, just like we were hoping!) And you guys, it’s a doozy. It may only be a minute long, but not a single one of those sixty seconds is wasted, and I defy you to get all the way through it without tearing up.

Up until now, we’d been making do with the little vignettes they’d been releasing from Capitol TV (which you can check out here and here in case you missed them), but let’s be honest, it’s nice to get a real look at the plot of the movie this time, even if it is still just a teaser trailer. (Hey, it’s better than a teaser GIF, which is what we were getting for Catching Fire this time last year.)

Anyway, it’s just a wee nugget of trailer, but it packs a serious punch, and the place you’re gonna feel it most is right in your tear ducts. Here are the ten moments most likely to hit you right in your feels.

  1. The trailer got me right off the bat, because I keep forgetting that Phillip Seymour Hoffman has more films coming out, even though his tragic death was almost six months ago. It’s a gut-punch every time.
  2. Katniss’ silhouette walking through the barracks in District 13 was eerily beautiful.
  3. Julianne Moore as Coin delivering that incredible line — “She won’t be able to handle it. The games destroyed her.”
  4. Seeing Natalie Dorner with tears in her eyes as Katniss passes.
  5. The concern on Gale’s face as he kneels down into frame. Fingers crossed that Liam Hemsworth never talks ever in this movie, and instead spends his time just smoldering at the camera.
  6. The explosion shown in the visor of the Peacekeeper.
  7. The people running up the trees as others running on the ground fall.
  8. The way Jennifer Lawrence‘s voice cracks on the line “I am.” when she’s still offscreen…
  9. …and how it gets stronger for, “I will,” as we get our first shot of her.
  10. And that old Hunger Games whistle at the end of the trailer. Always manages to get me emotional, for some reason.

GAHHHHH. I’m a total wimp, but whatever, at least I own it. Mockingjay Part I will be released November 21st, 2014. BE THERE.

*CHILLS* I had it together until Katniss’s face had such weariness and uncertainty. UUUFFF I hope this is as spectacular as we hope!

        Ha-HA! Gotcha!
And I think it might be! Fingers crossed.

    • Olivia Wilson

I thought I’d be able to make it past at least the first half but ugh Julianne Moore killed me.

Something was bound to take you down.

I actually think splitting these movies into two might work to its benefit. Since they can leave the 1st person view of the books we can see a lot more and delve much deeper into the rebellion, the propaganda, etc. I am looking forward to it, for some reason I feel they have done it right. Katniss’s face saying “I will” as TJ said *CHILLS*

Oo good point! I love the idea of exploring other parts of the rebellion more. Especially since there isn’t a lot that happens in the first part of the book. It seems like the natural half point is when Peeta is rescued so hopefully we can get that far!

I think they will show Peeta attack her then cut to black, then show her in a hospital bed or maybe overlooking Peeta locked in a room and being told he was hijacked show her expression of anger/remorse then roll the credits. I don’t think they can just leave it with Peeta attacking her.

That sounds like almost the exact same ending to Catching Fire. :) Yep, that’s where I think they will end as well. It just is a natural half-way point in the book.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

Yeah, that’s a good call. I was really opposed to it at first, but it makes sense.
