Someone Should Tell Kendall Jenner There’s More To Modeling Than Being Gorgeous

Let me just say right off the bat that Kendall Jenner is a beautiful girl. She really really is. Stunning, attractive, gorgeous; whatever word you want to use to say that she’s genetically superior to me and the other 99.999% of the population, I’m fine with. The only one I’m not okay with is the main one she’s using right now — model.

Obviously she technically already is one, by virtue of appearing on magazine covers, booking high-profile fashion shows, and doing endless photo shoots and red carpet appearances…I get that, I’m not an idiot. But for me it’s one of those things like, Cameron Diaz can do as many movies as she wants, but she’ll never be an actor, y’know? She can go through the motions, but every time I see her on the screen I’m like ‘nope nope nope, sorry! but you almost had me!’ In that same vein, Kendall Jenner can get her photo taken until the cows come home, but that doesn’t make her a model.

Whatever you may think in your  mind about modeling, it’s a really hard job. Your success relies on you consistently looking good, something I’ve never perfected in my nearly twenty-seven years on the planet. You have to always look impeccable, always look like yourself, and you have to make me want to own the thing that you’re modeling. Kendall’s batting about two for three in those categories, which isn’t bad by any means, but it does not a model make.

If you need more proof of what I’m talking about, look no further than this new photo from a shoot that Kendall did with Love magazine and Mario Sorrenti.

If this photo is intended to sell me dead eyes or to make me hold my breath and raise my shoulders in discomfort while I look at it, then she’s killing it! Great job! Give the girl a raise! But if it’s not intended to do any of those things, then better luck next time.

It’s a beautiful photo, very artistic, but I don’t think it’s because of Kendall. It’s because everyone else who contributed to the photo — the art director, the stylist, the lighting designer, the photographer, etc. — is highly trained in what they do, and they’ve worked hard to get where they are.

In contrast, Kendall has never really had to work hard on anything. She doesn’t go to school, doesn’t have a traditional job, and even when she wrote a book with her sister Kylie, their contribution was a two page outline that a ghostwriter expanded off of. The only thing that Kendall brings to the table is being gorgeous, and wealthy and successful enough to skip the traditional learning and growing steps.

She has the benefit of a famous family, a recognizable face, and an enviable body, but absolutely no experience working for anything…and it shows all over her face.

I disagree regarding Cameron D, as I think she has natural comic timing, entertains and I loved her turn in Being John Malkovic, shows that with the right material/project she can surprise people and go a bit deeper. However with the K Jenner girl and having worked with models myself, I completely agree!

I think you’re totally right to include the the art director, the stylist, the lighting designer, the photographer, and the other people who usually go overlooked, but I think Kendall’s a talented model. True, her name helped get her places, but that could be said of many others. If Karl Lagerfeld let her walk in his show, I feel like she must have something other than her beauty and her name working for her.

Karl also lets Charlotte Free walk in his show though. And she basically bobbles down the runway like a fool when she walks. His judgement can’t really be trusted anymore….

i have to disagree @disqus_eOW6QPQp7J:disqus If you take a look at the VS Models or even other high profile models, they’er not just there to take pictures. they are smart businesswoman who have many interests and talents besides modelling (at least the successful ones do) which is why we see them in film and other ventures. Plus they do a lot of humanitarian work and have good people skills in general. Kendall literally just shows up and snaps pictures. She can’t talk to interviewers nor does she bother involving herself in anything else. Everything was handed to her on a silver, Kardashian platter.

I’m sorry but Kendall comes off as very boring and stiff in print. If you want to look at a daughter of a celebrity who can actually model,I prefer Gigi Hadid.

      Well said, Alexis.

        Thank you!

I couldn’t agree more. She has long legs and beautiful face, eyes, hair.
But then, is it enough to be a famous model? I don’t think so. Maybe just as a catwalk model.
But she has the opportunities to do whatever she wants to, so anyone would be stupid to don’t use them.
I wouldnt buy anything, if she would be promoting it. – I just don’t believe what I see in her eyes. – No depth.

Kendall Jenner is the sort of person who I don’t feel bad for, because they’re super rich, super beautiful and they’re getting the easy side of it due to their family connections, but at the same time I appreciate that if she is a genuinely hard worker that it wouldn’t come across because of the fixed mental image I have of her. Like even if I saw her build a house by herself, from a scratch I’d still struggle thinking of ‘Kendall Jenner’ + ‘good work ethic’ in the same sentence.

      I think she’s a great model.
