Remember two months ago when video leaked of Solange Knowles attacking Jay Z in the elevator of that hotel? Well she’s finally speaking about it for the first time right now, so everybody pull up a chair and get cozy.
I guess if we’re really being real semantic about it, this isn’t actually Solange’s first statement, given that she’s a member of the Carter-Knowles family and was thus technically included in the joint statement that the family released. But it’s definitely the first time that anyone from that family has broken ranks and spoken about it on an individual basis, so I can’t wait to see what Solange has to say.
Two weeks after the incident, she spoke to Lucky magazine for their August 2014 issue, and she had this to say about the incident that she refers to as ‘that thing’:
“What’s important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”
Oh. Okay. Harrumph. I hope you didn’t get your hopes up too high, because she just deflected like a pro. Not even trying to explain it away or give a plausible reason for why it happened, just — check the family statement if you need a reminder on what I said. Okay thanks bye.
I absolutely don’t agree with the fact that Solange resorted to violence in the moment, no matter what reason she might have had or thought she had for doing so, but I have to admit I’m super impressed by the family’s ability to weather the storm. Just put out a united statement, keep your head down, and if anyone has any questions, kindly invite them to sit down and shut up.
