Believe it or not, Netflix offers a lot more than just obscure ’90s movies and full seasons of TV shows that you can binge watch until your eyes fall out. They also have a great selection of stand-up comedy specials. They tend to run between an hour and an hour and a half, and they’re awesome choices for when you want to be entertained, but committing to a TV series or a movie plot is just too much to ask.
You might not know which comedians to start with, though, which is why we’re here to help. We rounded up ten great stand-up specials available to stream right now from a few comedians you probably already know and love in one form or another. Watch, roll on the floor laughing, get grossed out by how much you need to vacuum, maybe vacuum, and then watch some more.
1. Aziz Ansari, Buried Alive
If you like him as Tom on Parks and Rec, then treat yo self to his Netflix special, where he touches on everything from dating to social media. If you like this special, you can move on to two more of them — Dangerously Delicious and Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening. The 50 Cent grapefruit story in Dangerously Delicious is beyond hilarious.
2. Louis CK, take your pick
Seriously, Louis has three specials on Netflix — Chewed Up, Live at the Beacon Theater – and Hilarious and you need to watch all of them. I really can’t choose just one to suggest you start with, because they’re all hilarious. I know, I’m so original, I think Louis CK is funny. But he is.
3. Women Who Kill
Time to talk about the ladies. This special features Amy Schumer, Rachel Feinstein, Nikki Glaser and Marina Franklin. You’re probably already familiar with Amy from her show, but by the end you’ll have three new funny ladies to obsess over.
4. Craig Ferguson, I’m Here To Help
Do you love Scottish accents and quirky comedy? Do you like to stay up late watching a Craig Ferguson banter with a robot? Then this special is for you. It’s pretty much just an extended version of Craig’s nightly monologue, except the curse words aren’t covered up flags and foreign sayings. What more could you want?
5. Maria Bamford, The Special Special Special
I first saw Maria Bamford as the really intense lady in those Target Black Friday commercials, and I was like, “That lady is kinda scary but totally hilarious.” And then I learned she was a stand-up comedian and was so excited. Her delivery is amazing, and she finds humor in her experience with mental illness.
6. Jim Gaffigan, Mr. Universe
Jim Gaffigan is consistently hilarious and relatable. His McDonald’s routine (above, watch it ASAP) is perfect and insanely true. Once you’ve watched this one, move on to Beyond the Pale, which is also available on Netflix.
7. Morgan Murphy, Irish Goodbye
You might know Morgan Murphy from her hilarious Twitter account, and if not then you should get to following. If you want to experience her comedy with sounds and more than 140 characters per joke, watch her special. The above clip isn’t from Irish Goodbye, but it’ll give you an idea.
8. Bo Burnham, what.
If you really want to feel unaccomplished, just watch famous comedian and 23-year-old Bo Burnham do some stand-up. If you like a little music (and weirdness) with your funny stuff, he’s the guy for you.
9. John Mulaney, New in Town
John Mulaney was an SNL writer and has an upcoming autobiographical sitcom on Fox. In case you need any more convincing, he co-created Stefon with Bill Hader. I know, right? This guy has everything.
