11 Celebrities You Have A Love/Hate Relationship With

The Vampire Diaries Love Hate

(via)

You know how you really want to like a celebrity, but then they occasionally go and do or say things that make you dramtically shout into the silent night, “We we’re so close to happiness!!” Like, it would be one thing if they just had a teensy slip-up and moved on with their flawless existence. But it’s another situation entirely when their M.O. is to be great one day and be intolerable the next.

To be fair, as a famous person, it’s probably really hard to get to a place where people love everything that you do all the time. You have to either A) have access to sorcery (which explains how Harry Potter ever managed to have friends), B) be the master of staying under the radar, or C) be Beyoncé. However, these 11 celebrities succeed at the even harder task of sitting directly on the line between love and hate. And I think that they deserve a special round-of-applause-slash-eye-roll.

1. Taylor Swift

So, it turns out that beneath that jaded middle schooler exterior lives a pretty awesome celeb lady who’s great to her fans. And also, a middle-aged woman, according to Ed Sheeran. There’s just a lot going on inside ol’ Swiftie.

2. Miley Cyrus

Sometimes, Miley surprises the pants off of me with the occasional insightful comment. But, still, you’ve never seen a person who claims they don’t care what other people think of them try so very hard all of the time.

3. Jared Leto

I’m almost positive that Jared thinks that the top two actors in the world are both Jared Leto and Jared Leto. He’s good, but he knows it! And I can’t get down with that. Usually.

4. Pharrell Williams

It was all smooth sailing with catchy music and general coolness until very recently, when Pharrell revealed to the world that he is both culturally insensitive and enjoys talking out of his ass. Now I don’t know where to go from here.

5. Shailene Woodley

Shailene, bless her heart. I just wish that someone would teach her that loving men has nothing to do with being a feminist. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to love you without always being on the lookout for a ridiculous comment from you.

6. Lena Dunham

Sure, Lena is smart and talented and all of that jazz. But I have such a hard time separating her from her self-absorbed TV counterpart, Hannah Horvath, mostly because they’re exactly the same person.

7. Ben Affleck

This one is more of a don’t care/hate relationship. Because most of the time, I don’t even think about what Ben Affleck and his beard are doing. But, every time he feels the need to not-so-subtly cry out for a marital exit strategy, I find myself so annoyed by him.

8. Jennifer Lawrence

Even America’s Sweetheart can be overexposed, as was proven very quickly by J. Law.

9. John Mayer

My guilty secret is that I still love all of John’s music. Like, all of it. And I should love it a little less, considering the fact that he’s one of Hollywood’s reigning douchebags. But I don’t.

10. Selena Gomez

I feel like maybe Selena is a sweet person, but then I can’t see how that could be totally true about a person who spends so much time with the godawful Justin Bieber.

11. Justin Timberlake

Stupidly cute and talented, yes. Most irritating overachiever ever, also yes. Like, you just know that he’s the type to have started his Prom King campaign in the third grade.

Mmmm I feel this with John Mayer. Such sweet music from such a douchebag.

    • Olivia Wilson

It’s the most shameful of shames.

  • Anna Sims

I agree with literally everything on this list.

    • Olivia Wilson

It’s like “I love everything about you… except that, that, DEFINITELY that.”

  • Jenni

Shailene Woodley!!! She’s my favorite woodland creature, but she says the most inane stuff sometimes.

    • Olivia Wilson

Wow, Jenni, all of the other woodland creatures just gasped audibly at this sly dig.

    • Jenni

I have a definitive ranking of woodland creatures and I’m not going to pretend otherwise

  • KMHinsman .

Well I thought for sure I’d see Ashton Kutcher on here. And somehow Madonna isn’t on this list either. Most people don’t “hate” Jennifer Lawrence but it’s just that we need a break for awhile.

    • Olivia Wilson

I think that Ashton Kutcher is less offensive than he is… invisible? If he weren’t in a relationship with Mila Kunis, I don’t think I’d think of him ever.

But good call on Madonna. I wish she’d just live in 2014, instead of in 1985 like she keeps trying to.

    • Jillian

I agree most people don’t “hate” J Law they just get tired of all the media fixation with her, not sure I would put her on this list but the rest are right on. I also agree on Madonna and add J Lo trying to act like they are still 20-25, give it up ladies and deal with it. I am glad Olivia didn’t even add the KarTRASHians… when will they just go away blows my mind people call them celebs.

  • Alexis Rhiannon

    I’m mentally adding Ariana Grande.

    • Olivia Wilson

How HOW did I miss that one?!?! I need to be cleansed of this sin.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

      Try Evian???

    • Olivia Wilson

      Anything but cow tit pus.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

      :(

  • jen27

I’m not sure if it’s just that I had SEEN John Mayer before HEARING him, but I find his music super duper douchey. To me it’s the aural version of his stupid punchable face. I guess it doesn’t help that his voice/music reminds me of all the douchebag preppies who hung out with the popular girls in my school and were super deep with their music.

    • Olivia Wilson

If you swapped out “popular girls in my school” for “famous women out of his league” that’d be an exact description of John’s Hollywood experience.

    • jen27

Ha. It also didn’t help that so many girls I went to high school with thought that “daughters” song was just OHH so romantic whereas it is actually super paternalistic and patronizing.

  • Lily Savage

Totally Taylor Swift. I jump back and forth with her so often.
