Jill Duggar’s Wedding Dress Was Way More Scandalous Than Michelle And Anna Duggar’s Dresses

Jill Duggar Derick Dilard Dating Hiking photo

Remember those kids who swam in oversize t-shirts at the pool during the summer? Sure you do.  Especially if you were one of those kids.  This was before aerosol sunscreen went up to SPF 1,000 – some moms just wanted that extra layer of protection from the harsh rays of the sun.  Well, the Duggar family shares similar principles.  Except instead of a t-shirt over a normal bathing suit (something they don’t need since they swim in Victorian-era bathing costumes), they slap a t-shirt over their wedding dresses.  And instead of fearing sunburn or skin cancer, they fear that bare shoulders and a neckline below the collar bone are grounds for a one-way ticket to the fiery pits of Hell.

So imagine my surprise when the photos of Jill Duggar‘s wedding to Derick Dillard surfaced, and she looked… normal.  Okay, maybe “normal” is a poor word choice.  She looked mainstream and modern.  Honestly, she looked beautiful.  See for yourself:

In perusing other photos, I noticed her shoulders were showing.  Sure, there’s a hint of a delicate cap sleeve in there, but for the most part (save for a super high neckline) Jill Duggar not only looks like a blushing bride, but she looks like she belongs in the 21st century. Which is more than we can say for Michelle and Anna Duggar‘s t-shirt dresses wedding attire.

Jill Duggar FTW, clearly.  Now if only we could get Jessa Duggar to actually like her boyfriend, I’m dying to see if she follows suit and ditches the Sad Wedding Sack days of the past.  Bare arms = perfect for skin-to-skin contact and full-frontal hugging!

I don’t know if you’re sarcastic, but I truly think what one wears is their own choice, no need to belittle them for it. A girl’s body is her own and she can dress it however she wants.

  • Chav

I’m a modest dressing conservative Christian girl myself but I agree, Michelle and Anna’s dresses were just plain unattractive! I think Jill looked beautiful and still very modest. That is my kind of wedding gown!

  • Ashley C

Jill’s dress was quite tasteful. Modest with a hint of modernity. I love it!

Here’s hoping Derrick will encourage her to grow as a person and not just condemn her to a life of never ending baby making.

    • Liza

Derrick is no where near the same as the duggar boys. He comes from a family of only two kids, has a mother who wears pants and is college educated, and he himself went to Oklahoma state and was pistol Pete. It’s obvious from the show that he’s had other girlfriends before, and honestly I’m surprised Jimbob had no problem courting someone who wasn’t into ATI/a gothardite. The only one to worry about turning into a baby making machine here is jessa, whose boyfriend seems to be the next Jimbob.

    • Jill C

Actually, what would be great is if Jessa’s boyfriend were as nice and sweet as Jimbob. But instead, he gives me the willies.

I don’t know, there is something weird about the entire Duggar clan. I wouldn’t want to marry someone whom I had never kissed or known intimately. Too many unanswered questions that could spell disaster for the couple. They Duggars are just too good to be true. And you know what they say about “If something seems too good to be true?”

Jill’s dress maybe not quite fantastic but it’s also very beautiful romantic in my view, as long as the wedding dress is the perfect one she want, it will be the best one!

  • J_Doe5686

I was actually shocked by the dress! I thought that she was going to wear her mom’s or something of the same fashion but this dress was gorgeous! It looked great on her.

  • iluka

wow. this article shows such intolerance! amazing.

    • M_G

      Oh? Does it? How so?

    • Cassandra Hough

I think you’re confusing “intolerance” with “opinion”.

I’m not sure if this qualifies for entertainment reporting or just plain hating since someone’s standards are different from hers. Maybe next go-round you can get the privilege of reporting on The Bachelor/ette so you can revel in the skankdom.

I have my own fan club? There are so many people (of the non-deity variety) I’d like to thank for this honor!

I really am pleasantly pleased by this dress! And I’m as anti-Duggar as they come.

  • J. Audobon Woodlore

WTF is a Duggar and why should anyone give a FlyingFuck what they wear? Don’t you people have lives? Children? Jobs? Sense?

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Jobs, yes. Hint: we’re doing it now!

    • J. Audobon Woodlore

How proud your parents must be.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Do yours know you’re calling strangers cunts on the internet?

    • J. Audobon Woodlore

No. They’re dead. And you’re not a stranger. We’ve met.
      Several times. ;-)

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Would you like to tell me who you are, or shall I take the liberty of logging your IP address and finding out for myself?

    • J. Audobon Woodlore

I’m on an anon server, but thanks. Or you could walk down the hall and knock. :-)

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Great! I’ll take this as the threat to my physical and sexual safety that I believe you intend it to be.

    • Nope

My eyes are about to roll out of my head. There’s no such thing as a truly anonymous server. Gaaaaaaaahd.

Nice try at being cryptic and “mysterious,” though.

    • Alexis Rhiannon

Yup! He deleted his Disqus account as soon as I started calling him on his bullshit, so I think he knows that as well as you and I.

    • Nerdy Lucy

Some people just aren’t very smart about that kind of thing.

    • Nerdy Lucy

1.) Meh. She’s a writer and there’s a market for this, and you’re leaving comments about it.

Let that sink in for a moment.

2.) Did you really intend for “FlyingFuck” to be one word? I’m genuinely curious.

  • Myndee

I was SHOCKED they let her wear a dress without a turtleneck, especially after the front hug incident. The dress is RAAAAAACCCCCYYYYYYYYY for a Duggar wedding, but I am so glad she was able to wear something pretty and not a sack. I wish she would have done a little more with her hair though.

  • Rightone

I totally agree with your sentiments. Totally.Fandango Jennie Blair • a minute ago

I see no reason for the snarkiness in this article. There is nothing wrong with Michelle or Anna’ dresses and they do not look like tshirts. I’m sure they are far from being the only ones who chose to have a modest wedding dress. I’ve been to any number of weddings where the bride wore a pretty, though modest, dress. Each to their own, you know?

    • Lara Morgana

Michelle and Anna are both wearing dresses that look like someone stuffed a t-shirt under the wedding gown. Both dresses are unflattering and if you can’t see that you’re blind. I have nothing against modesty. I actually hate it when brides come prancing down the aisle with their breasts hanging out or with the back of the dress cut so low you can see all the way to China. But there is a happy medium and Jill achieved it. She looks amazing.

    • koolchicken

Actually Michelle is wearing a “modesty panel” under that dress. I saw that episode and they explained they keep it in the shop for conservative brides and women who are uncomfortable walking through the place half naked (samples only come in a 6 and many women can’t do up the back let alone get the dress to cover their boobs). After she picked her dress the alterations department built up the top of the dress so she didn’t have to wear the stores one size fits all dickey.

For the record have a dress built up with straps and or sleeves is not uncommon. 95% of all wedding dresses are strapless. Yet most churches don’t allow them. Also the arms are one of those “no show, please” spots for many women, and last but not least, not everyone looks good in a strapless dress.

    • koolchicken

I think the dress Michelle actually bought (people like to share this photo but it’s not what she wore) and the one Anna wore were lovely. There’s something to be said for wearing something you feel comfortable and confident in on your wedding day. Also they are religious brides, and many church’s do not allow sleeveless dresses, let alone strapless ones. There’s a reason you can add cap sleeves to any David’s Bridal dress. It’s because designers make strapless dresses, but very few brides actually want one. When I got married finding a gown with straps or sleeves was next to impossible. I ended up ordering extra lace and having a matching jacket made. Because I love fashion, but I also understand that the church aisle is just that and not a runway.

  • dianed

If you look carefully at her dress it doesn’t even look properly fitted/altered ….just my opinion!

  • SkiesVibrant .

I will never understand the need to criticize the dresses young women choose to marry in. Then to belittle their way of life for no possible reason other than mean spiritness. Then I read that people are just waiting for one of the Duggar children to make a mistake. Circling them just like journalistic predators salivating at the prospect of a Duggar mistake.
Funny, I have never heard Anna, Michelle or Jill criticize others, they just just offer what they believe without offering a single word of condemnation.
    God help us all.
