Idina Menzel Has The Best Ever Response To Her Onstage Wardrobe Malfunction

Idina Menzel wardrobe malfunction June 2014

Did you think Idina Menzel’s amazingness ended with her amazing singing voice, dazzling stage presence, and double life as the wick-edly talented, one and only Adele Dazeem? Oh silly you, how could you come to that conclusion before you’d seen video of her dealing with an onstage wardrobe malfunction? Spoiler alert: She deals with it beautifully. And with boob jokes.

Idina was singing “Take Me or Leave Me” from Rent during her show at Radio City Music Hall when something strange happened in her breasticle area. The leather bra/bustier/thing she was wearing under her dress started to ride up, revealing a healthy serving of underboob, likely because, as the full video shows, she’d just changed clothes behind a screen. A helpful lady — I’m going to unofficially dub her the Underboob Wrangler — hurried over, adjusted Idina’s situation, and left. But Idina didn’t just deal with the malfunction, pretend nothing happened, and continue performing. She wanted to talk about it. And it. Was. Hilarious.

First she insisted on checking herself out on the screen to know just how underbooby that underboob actually was. Then she shouted, “These divas need their stage,” which is a play on a line from “Take Me or Leave Me,” in reference to her boobs. Then she continued checking herself out, making certain the underboob had been sufficiently wrangled, and finally quipped, “Well fuck it, they’re real.” And she went on to nail her performance, which is just what Idina Menzel does. Go ahead and watch the malfunction go down below, and get inspired to handle embarrassing situations with just as much fabulousness.

And when you’re done with that, check out the complete performance below. Resistance is futile.

I love how delighted she is when she sees how much of it was squishing out.
