Admit it, every time a celebrity couple has a baby you’re secretly just waiting to hate the name. Because let’s face it, most celebrity parents seem to be in some sort of secret competition with each other on who can name their baby the weirdest name possible. Though I probably don’t need to remind you of the Suris/Apples/Blue Ivys/Bear Blazes/Norths of the world, they’re out there and they’re all set up for resenting their parents when they’re older.
That being said, I was a little nervous when I read Kelly Clarkson and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, announced the birth of their brand new baby girl (is it just me, or was she pregnant for like a year?). But the name is surprisingly cute, and kind of goes along with the vibe Giselle Bundchen and Nicole Richie have gone with for nature-like middle names (Lake and Winter, respectively). So without further ado:
It’s River Rose Blackstock!
I’m actually shocked I don’t hate it. I’m even more shocked that I think it’s not just cute, but fills me with sweet, simple, Southern imagery. I have this theory on Southern-sounding names – they’re perfect for one of three professions: professional fisherman/woman, professional Nascar driver, or famous country singer. Think about all famous car drivers and country singers you know (everyone knows at least one or two) and you’ll probably agree. Miranda Lambert? Blake Shelton? Roland Martin? Ricky Bobby? Yup, yup, yup. They were born with the perfect names for their occupations. I love it.
If you can’t picture River Rose wearing a cute pair of boots and sharing the stage with her mom and grandma, Reba McIntire (another fitting name), you’re totally lying.
