We didn’t even have to get to the first performance for the lip sync rumors to start. It was this video of Britney rehearsing her song ‘Gimme More’ that first sealed the deal for me. She looked so dazed that I figured there was no way she was singing full voice, let alone that she had been for an hour and a half. And I was actually okay with that, because she had a seriously intensive schedule, and I think this girl needs a break anyway. But her team was very vocal about denying that any lip-syncing was or would be taking place, with her publicist announcing:
“Britney Spears will be singing live during her show (and) she will not be ‘lip-syncing.”
And that’s been the story ever since. Even through tech failures, costume issues, and a video where Britney forgot to bring the mic back up to her mouth during a performance and the sound miraculously kept coming out, her team insisted that she was performing live. Until now.
All of a sudden, in an interview with Matter, Britney’s manager Adam Leber is very casually trying to pretend like everybody lip syncs, and he can’t believe you didn’t realize this was going on the whole time.
“To put on the show that she puts on, it’s virtually impossible to sing the entire time and do what she does. She’s singing on every song, basically, when she has the ability to sing. There’s no way you can dance for 90 minutes straight and sing the entire time.”
THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING. And I’m getting reamed out by the Britney Army for even daring to suggest that every note coming over the speakers is 100% live. Kind of hung me out to dry here, buddy! But really great to see that even the people closest to Britney acknowledge that she’s not up to a ninety minute show multiple times a week. Does this mean her abs are painted on, too! You’ve been denying that, but I don’t know what to believe anymore. Sheesh.
