Normally when a celebrity gets naked on the cover of a magazine, it makes me feel crappy and intimidated because they have perfect bodies that they say come from Pilates and ‘running after their kids’. But when themagical air mermaid that is P!nk does it, it’s more inspiring than anything else.
She posed nude on the cover of WHO‘s Body Issue, but the way she did it was zero percent sexual. I mean sure, you can see pretty major side boob, but one look at her huge smile and the way she’s displaying all her tattoos is proof enough that she’s doing it because she feels good in her body, not to show off at all.
And that feeling is strengthened even further when you check out what she has to say about body image during the interview. She says she’s ten pounds heavier now than she was before her pregnancy — her daughter, Willow, is now three years old — but proudly says:
“I’m in the best shape of my life.”
She says she’s gotten to a very enviable place where her body confidence is strongest ‘when I know I’m fit’ and that even when she struggles with that fitness, it’s not such a big deal:
“I’m so much more patient with myself.”
And for anyone who wants to get a little taste of that stellar self-image, it comes from valuing the ‘self’ part over the ‘image’. Pink says she had a really unique perspective growing up:
“Instead of thinking, ‘Am I skinny?’ I grew up thinking, ‘Am I fast enough? How can I use my body?’ I’m a person who could always lose a couple [pounds] here and there, but I would rather be strong than bony.”
Ugh, yes. It’s such a relief to read something like this, especially as someone who’s trying to get in shape myself right now. It can be frustrating to see my body changing but not to see it on the scale, because I’m adding muscle at the same time I’m dropping fat. So thank you, Pink, for giving me the permission to cut myself some slack!
