Lena Dunham Performs An Interpretive Dance, Finally Manages To Out-Weird Herself

Last night on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Sia performed her new single “Chandelier” with a very special, very famous guest to help her out. That guest was Lena Dunham, who did an interpretive dance to accompany Sia’s singing. To say it was weird would be the understatement of the century. Let’s just say it was very… art. And not in an “I did a pointillist painting of a penguin in 7th grade and got an A on it” kind of way. This was more in a “WTF is happening and how can I make it stop?” kind of way.

Allow me to set the scene for you by saying, first of all, that Sia performs her song while lying face down in a loft bed. So she basically looks like your college roommate when you got back late to the dorm room and tried not to wake her up. Except Lena Dunham is also in your dorm room, and she’s wearing a blonde wig and the kind of all-white outfit ladies in tampon commercials wear to prove you don’t have to worry about stains. She’s also lip-syncing and moving around like she has a bee down her shirt.

Then there’s some toilet paper dancing, and it ends with them both in the bed. If we’re still using the dorm room analogy, it’s the kind of thing you’d accidentally walk in on while sleepily groping for the communal bathroom door late at night and then pretend you hadn’t seen the next day when you pass Lena and Sia in the hallway. I don’t totally understand art, in case you hadn’t noticed. Or at least, not the kind of art that involves whatever is happening in this video, which is actually based on the official music video, featuring Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler. But Lena’s not a dancer, so it looks… different.

Here’s the official video, if you’re curious.
