Ben Seewald Posted A Photo Of Jessa Duggar With An Assault Rifle, Which Is Totes Something Jesus Would Do

Jessa Duggar holding automatic rifle in Ben Seewald Instagram photo June 2014Even though the Duggar Family speaks out on abortion and refers to it as murder in pretty much every episode of their TLC show 19 Kids And Counting, apparently murder is a-okay when you’re an adult and it comes from an automatic rifle. You learn something new every day!

This particular lesson came from Ben Seewald, who’s currently courting Jessa Duggar. Jessa doesn’t seem that into Ben, but Ben loves Jessa very much, a fact that he reminds us of almost every day on his Instagram. Usually it’s just selfies with the two of them, but a few days ago, he put up the one I have at the top of this page. It’s of Jessa by herself, holding an assault rifle, with the caption “My AWESOME girlfriend. #DontmesswithJessa”. Sigh.

Is that…really something Jesus would do? Given, that’s not a question that usually comes out of my mouth, but when you make that dude as big a part of your life as the Duggars have, it bears mentioning. If history and experience have proven one thing, it’s that guns like that aren’t for hunting animals, they’re for hunting people. A point that’s driven home even further by the warning ‘not to mess with Jessa’. Or what? She’ll shoot you up? Holding hands before you’re engaged is dangerous, but brandishing an automatic weapon is fun and games? You guys gotta get your message straight, because you really can’t have it both ways.

…a fact that Ben apparently figured out, as the photo is now gone from his social media, replaced by anti-abortion screeds and reminders that Jesus loved his enemies:

Well in that case, I guess it’s a good thing Jesus never had access to an assault rifle, because Ben and Jessa have a pretty scary way of loving their enemies.

“And on the 8th day, God gave unto Man the AK-47, Uzi, and Truvelo Raptor. And so He decreed to Man, ‘Go forth and standeth your ground.’” Pretty sure that’s in Genesis somewhere. Research, Alexis! It’s important.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

I think I missed that day in Journalism 101.

      • MJ Miller

You missed a lot more than that!

    • wispy

I just read this on DailyMail and came straight here to see if yall were on it yet. And yes you were. Someone on there said how Jesus encouraged everyone to buy swords, so in today’s world he would agree with this. Um yeah. Can I also add that I hate when people use guns as “props” in photos, like it’s just so cute. No it’s not cute. It’s dumb.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

Oh you know we’re all over it. And yeah, there’s nothing cute about a deadly weapon.

I’m honestly curious as to how Duggar fans will defend this.

    • FemelleChevalier

I’m a bit confused at the message on the photo, because what I basically got is that infanticide is less wrong than abortion.

I dunno about you but I think their analogy is broken. And a tad sociopathic.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

You have to grow your baby up big and strong so it can get shot to death in its high school later on!

      • FemelleChevalier

Blasphemy! Abortion is worse than that! It said so in the bible! #AbortTheAbortions

      • MJ Miller

        Your ignorance speaks loudly!

    • Nbl

Umm hell yea, Jesus would have rocked the assault rifle! And he has! South Park is the gospel truth right?

      • Alexis Rhiannon

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that got folded into the New Testament somewhere.

    • LadyClodia

That is one seriously scary-ass picture of Jessa Duggar.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

        And she knows it.

This photo is a couple of weeks old. There was a photo of John David Duggar a few years ago which showed him holding two rifles criss-crossed in front of each other. http://bit.ly/1llvPi9
There was a lot of criticism, but Jim Bob just said John David had a constitutional right to own a gun. My guess is that Duggars won’t respond to this photo especially considering there’s not much controversy over it

      • CMJ

Ha. It is also my “right” to get an abortion….because as it’s legal to own a gun, it is also legal to get an abortion.

Logic – they don’t have it.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

        Nailed it.

      • MJ Miller

Alexis, If you would spend as much time volunteering to help those less fortunate as you spend making paltry comments to everyone’s remarks, this world might just be a better place. And while you are at it, you too should practice some respect and tolerance for those who you feel are beneath you….as you have not demonstrated here on this site.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

        This is my job, MJ.

      • MJ Miller

Your logic to intentionally kill vs owning a gun is not a intellectual comparison. Guns are not for killing…except to the ignorant. Shooting is still an Olympic sport both winter and summer. I target shoot for sport. The AR-15 rifle only looks mean. For a woman who target shoots for sport it has less kick than many rifles and therefore is more comfortable for target shooting. She probably has been through the NRA safety course as well and is a responsible owner. She also can live with herself because she has not murdered an innocent life that has no choice….unlike yourself. I wouldn’t brag about your actions.

      • CMJ

I’ve never had an abortion….I also know how guns work as I am the daughter of both an avid sportsman and decorated Veteran.

      • MJ Miller

That may be, but the difference between you and Jessa is that you condone murder and she does not. She is the one who can live with herself. You have to ride on the coat tails of your father to justify some sense of decency in your life. Jessa is decent already.

    • Afton

As someone who has used a gun multiple times for hunting animals I have a hard time not eye rolling at the whole, “If history and experience have proven one thing, it’s that guns like that aren’t for hunting animals, they’re for hunting people,” thing. She took a picture with her holding a gun. She didn’t shoot anyone so I don’t understand why people feel the need to make a big deal about it. I’m all for background checks and stricter gun laws, but I’m also all for couples being able to have a mutual hobby and make jokes.

      • MCR

The big deal comes from the obvious conflict between enthusiasm for guns that are intended only or mainly for use against humans, and basic Christianity, which is essentially pacifist. American Christians often let the national preoccupation with gun access overshadow Christian principles on violence and tools of violence, which makes them easy targets when it comes up. “Put your sword (or assault rifle) back in its place, for who lives by the sword will perish by the sword” is not a statement that encourages using dangerous weapons as a “hobby.”

      • JenH1986

They preach passivism but she holds a gun? I love guns. I’m hardly anti gun but holding a gun while preaching peace and love is a bunch of BS.

    • Jhey86

Entertainment media and its sheep jump at any opportunity to criticize this family for their conservative Christian beliefs and not conforming to public opinion. If your not anti-gun and pro-gay, you’re scrutinized for your point of view. The Duggars have raised 19 productive, kind and caring children who do a lot to help others, and support them all. That’s more than I can say for many parents with far less children. These types of guns are used for sport and there’s nothing wrong with a responsible gun owner posing with a gun. I just don’t get how this causes so much hate. Focus on the root of our issues like food over-processing, prescription drugs and parents who don’t teach their children right and wrong.

      • JenH1986

To be fair only like 7 of those kids are old enough to be considered “productive” members of society and I think half of those are girls who aren’t working (some are going to school for midwifery) so I don’t know that “productive” is the word I would use sine more than half of them are still young children. The point is it’s incredibly hypocritical to talk about all of life being important and then posing with a gun, which assists people in taking lives. I love guns, have more than a few myself so I’m not anti-gun. But if you’re going to preach passivism and love and all that, posing with a gun. Not the best choice. yes she’s young and all that but at this point she’s an old hat at media stuff. Looks like her boyfriend/fiancé is learning how that works.

      • MJ Miller

I believe all of the kids are brought up with good work ethics and they are all productive in the operation of their household……but maybe you don’t see that as productive.

      • JenH1986

No i don’t think living at home with your parents and not working when one doesn’t have children or a developmental issue is being productive. I understand that their family is a little different considering it’s size. But I don’t think watching ones siblings all day and then at night after school is productive. I think it’s unfair to those kids (all of them) because they don’t get a chance to see what might interest them. How could they? They are helping at home. I get that and appreciate that. The Duggars aren’t on assistance and do a lot of philanthropic work. There are certain aspects of their lifestyle I do not think would work well in my life. I also think it’s hypocritical to discuss peace and love and preach passivity and turning the other cheek and then take several photos holding guns either. It’s irresponsible and projects an image that playing with guns is funny. It’s not.

      • MJ Miller

You are sure judgmental and intolerant of people who choose to live a different lifestyle than your view of what is right. They aren’t on the welfare dole. And the girls just produced a book and have been working hard to promote it. I believe some of them have other outside jobs but is that your business? Holding a gun in a store is irresponsible? Some of us go shooting for sport. It is not “playing” as you put it but a sport. It is still in the Olympics, both summer and winter games. Again, an AR-15 just looks mean but it is a comfortable gun for women because it has less kick than a hunting rifle. You need to work at being more respectful and tolerant of those who are not like YOU. Practice some of that love and peace that you are spewing out.

Just in case you haven’t noticed, there’s this new thing called a JOKE. Some people have a sense of humor, just because they took this picture doesn’t mean a single thing.

      • Alexis Rhiannon

Who has a sense of humor? You?

    • Kristen

Oh my goodness! Just because you hold a gun doesn’t mean you support murder! Can people stop being offended over everything now?! It’s ridiculous. Who cares! Let’s all go cry in a corner because Jessa is holding a gun. How do you know that Ben doesn’t like to shoot guns and she is getting interested in her soon-to-be husband’s hobby?
