Jonah Hill Yelled A Homophobic Slur At A Paparazzo, So That’s Just Great

Congratulations, Jonah — you’re a prime asshole.

So Jonah Hill is the latest celebrity to drop a homophobic slur on camera, and I need to know how this is happening, who is telling these people that it’s okay to use these words. Does Alec Baldwin have some correspondence course for celebrities that gets them familiar with all the slurs and gives them tips on the most offensive times to drop them? I need answers.

Jonah was out walking around in the Larchmont area of Los Angeles with friends over the weekend when several paparazzi began following him and asking questions. And they weren’t polite, interview-esque questions by any means; they were essentially heckling him. TMZ has video of the whole thing, so we know that one of the photographers present (not one of theirs) faux-complimented Jonah’s floral print board shorts by saying:

“I like the shorts though, bro. They are pretty sexy.”

He was clearly trying to instigate something with Jonah, but to his credit, Jonah stayed silent. He was talking to his friends about how he’d never come to this area of town again, but he wasn’t responding to the photographers themselves. At least until they got ready to leave and wished him a good day…at which point Jonah said:

“Suck my dick, you faggot.”

Facepalm. COME ON MAN. Are you kidding me? You were doing so well! Whyyyyy would you resort to that? I understand that you’re frustrated, and rightfully so, but as TMZ points out, Jonah has always proudly supported gay rights, and was vocal in his critique of the Russian anti-gay laws in advance of the Winter Olympics in Sochi this year. Why would you want to jeopardize that good work by looking like just another idiot throwing out slurs?

I’m sure people will take the facts that I just provided above as evidence that Jonah can’t possibly be homophobic, and that’s fair. If his past behavior is any indicator, he’s no homophobe, but did say something homophobic, and that’s really not okay. For whatever reason, we still live in a world where a word or a phrase degrading gay people jumps to mind as an okay thing to say.

I’m betting Jonah is a generally great person, and probably that he regretted the slur the moment he said it, but that doesn’t make it in any way okay, so it’s important that we call him out.

Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin has his agent on the phone, “get me Jonah’s Hill’s number now, set up drinks! A vacation!”

As I stated in the Charlize Theron blog when I told the story of my semi-famous friend who has to deal with the paps. They are disgusting, disrespectful, sexist, xenophobes who should be arrested for stalking celebrities such as following them and taunting them all day long, I have seen it first hand and any normal adult would not put up with the abuse the celebs get from the paps in their normal daily life. They would confront them and fight back so to say.
Amazingly Jonah did good till the very end, everyone has a breaking point. I don’t condone the word he used but I understand why he lost his cool. Hopefully he learns from it.
I really think their should be a law about paps. One day someone is going to get hurt by a pap or someone pretending to be a pap to get to their celebrity crush is going to do something horrendous.
If a celeb happens by a hot spot where paps are that is one thing they can take pictures and what not but when the paps follow, stalk and purposefully try to provoke something needs to be done.

This is what it always makes me think of when someone uses that word….

I do like that unlike other celebrities, Jonah Hill apologized and said it was a disgusting thing to say and he shouldn’t have said it.
