Guys, Lea Michele has been lying to you. Even though there have been rumors about them as a couple for years — FOR YEARS — she’s always denied ever having dated Matthew Morrison. Until now, when she oh-so-super-casually just let it slip in her new book, Brunette Ambition. Clever.
You can understand why people would be interested in Lea and Matt’s romantic history, given that they were spending every day on the set of Glee together, but Lea said even though she and Matthew had known each other for years, they’d never been more than friends. They were familiar with each other because of the Broadway circuit, but to suggest that things went any further than that was ridiculous! Just ridiculous. Here’s Lea denying the rumors in an interview with Hollywood.com:
“I’ve known Matt for years. He’s been a friend of mine from New York. People are going to make things up. I think it’s just because we really are so close.”
People are just gonna make things up, you guys! And if you don’t believe Lea, maybe you’ll believe Matthew, who told Parade in 2010:
“We were literally on set and I got a call from my publicist [about Lea], and [Lea] got a call a minute later and we looked at each other like, ‘What the fuck?’ It’s so laughable.”
Yes, look at us, we are laughing. Glad that’s all settled, and we don’t have to worry about Lea sneaking an admission into her new book in hopes of getting us to buy it so we can comb through the rest. PSYCH! You should definitely be worried about that.
“When we shot the pilot, I met Cory Monteith, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, and Chris Colfer for the first time. I had worked on Broadway with Jenna Ushkowitz and Matthew Morrison before. Matt had been a friend of mine for years, and in fact we’d actually dated back in the day for a Broadway beat.”
HOLD IT. Aside from your groan-worthy use of the phrase ‘Broadway beat’ to describe a unit of time, are you really just gonna slide that in there like we wouldn’t notice we’d been lied to all this time? Doesn’t it kind of throw other things that she’s denied into question, like all the Monchele fakelationship rumors or her supposed feud with Naya Rivera.
I’m just saying if she’s admitting something like this after denying it for so long, it’s really anyone’s game at this point.
