Guys, I’m still recovering from watching one of the most jam-packed episodes of SNL I’ve seen in awhile. I think I might even need Maya Rudolph to perform her version of CPR on me, that’s how out of breath I am. Returning cast member Andy Samberg was the host last night, but it ended up being an all-out SNL alum reunion with appearances from: Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Martin Short, The Lonely Island, and of course, Maya Rudolph. This is why we love SNL season finales – they always pull out all the stops, and they’re usually full of all of the laughter you didn’t get throughout the season. (I kid, I kid.)
I also must say it takes a lot to make me laugh out loud uproariously while watching anything not Tina Fey/Amy Poehler-related, let alone laugh to the point of actual tears streaming down my face, so all in all last night was a great time. It was honestly difficult narrowing it down to just five favorites. So, here we go:
1. Cold Open
With this being the last live show until the end of September, naturally we had to hear form Jay-Z, Solange, and Bey..Bey Bey…Yonce….Beyonce. Love the wind machine that came out along with Maya Rudolph, and hearing what was “actually” said really cleared things up. The Beygency obviously got to them.
2. Andy Samberg Monologue
Andy Samberg is definitely not someone that comes to mind when hearing the phrase “good impressionist”, but his quest to beat Bill Hader in number of impressions was so entertaining. I miss watching Andy, Seth, and Bill together, too. “I’m Casey Kasem…and I’ve been found.” LOLZ.
3. The Vogelchecks
Okay, I about lost my marbles during this one. The super affectionate, kissing family was at an all-time high here. I actually felt like I was crawling out of my own skin and found it difficult to remain seated and still – the Kristen Wiig/Maya Rudolph ending also had me gasping for air. And even though it’s a big no-no, watching Fred Armisen break was hilarious because it’s so rare for him.
4. SNL Digital Short: Hugs
The Lonely Island, Pharell, and hugs. What more do you need? This was one of two Digital Shorts, but I liked this one better because it made me realize how much I miss watching Andy Samberg rap.
5. Kimye Talk Show
While this was probably the first “Kimye Talk Show” I’ve enjoyed in awhile, it pissed me off when it made a reference to Khloe’s weight and something about her and a “fully-stocked refrigerator.” Can we just…NOT? She’s the farthest thing from “fat”, and she can’t help it if her sisters are barely five feet tall who weigh less than 100lbs… that’s NOT NORMAL. So of course she always looks a little larger than them in photos and stuff. Can we please give the only tolerable Kardashian a break?! Whew. End rant. My two favorite parts: Bruce Jenner (or “Linda”… snicker) and: “It’s what I believe Jesus would have worn if he had access to a kilometer of leather.” Ah, the Kimye Wedding. Can’t wait.
