Just yesterday the reports started leaking that Naya Rivera had been fired from Glee after feuding with the show’s star, Lea Michele, but DON’T WORRY. Her rep is already on the scene to deny that story…and offer absolutely zero explanation for what could have actually gone down.
Obviously she works for Naya, who’s probably under some kind of confidentiality contract with Glee, so we can’t really expect her to be like, “Yup, uh-huh, it happened just like you said, and here are some extra details as well that we don’t want you to miss out on!” But I was expecting something in the way of an excuse, like ‘pursuing other opportunities’ or ‘ready to move on’ or at the very least ‘nothing but the utmost respect for Lea’.
These are all buzzwords and phrases that we’re used to hearing when someone leaves a show unexpectedly, but we got none of them. I mean she’s being written out of the finale for shit’s sake. A finale that’s supposed to air on May 13th! It costs people money to change their plans last-minute like that, so you know there’s a damn good reason for it. And yet…this is all her rep had to say to Just Jared:
“Any reports or rumors circulating that Naya Rivera was let go or fired from Glee are absolutely untrue. End of story.”
Nope. Absolutely not the end of the story. Beginning of the story! And in fact, you’re gonna have to tell a lot of it before we’re satisfied with the explanation for why a star was written out of the season five finale fourteen days before it’s supposed to air.
But to be fair, what would her rep actually say? I know we’re not honestly supposed to believe that a woman who allegedly tweeted this when her engagement with Big Sean was broken off…
@bigsean stealing rolexes from a lady’s house now. Maybe cuz I’m on Glee and making more money or something. #triflin
…would seriously voluntarily leave a show that earned her 1. money 2. fame and 3. bragging rights over her former fiance! That doesn’t make any sense. It seems much more likely that Naya’s whole team is just stalling for time and leaking statements to the press while they try to either fix this situation or come up with a plausible explanation. Oh and speaking of statements, here’s one now! It was supposedly given to JustJared by ‘a source who works on the show’:
“[Naya] isn’t fired and her not being in the finale has nothing to do with Lea. I don’t know where these stories are coming from, but they are not true.”
Uh-huh, sure. ‘A source who works on the show’. Really hoping it’s not you, Naya, because as of yesterday, that phrasing isn’t technically accurate.
