We’ve gotten pretty used to Lorde being right all the time and shaming us with pearls of beyond-her-years wisdom, but it sounds like she may have finally gone too far and called out someone who didn’t quite deserve it.
This is partly our fault, because we’ve rewarded Lorde from the beginning for being a straight-talking, flaw-loving, stereotype-defying badass. She’s taken on everything from Hollywood demanding that its female stars be sweet, to feminism, to Taylor Swift being an unachievable ideal for her fans to strive for, to Photoshop, which is where we find ourselves today.
A couple days ago, Lorde tweeted a photo of herself from a recent shoot with Canada’s FASHION Magazine that she liked, but had only one complaint about:
apart from the fact that i’m pretty sure this magazine gave me a new nose (:|), i really like this photo pic.twitter.com/Ehk9QMYPjf

Everyone (including Crushable, although it appears we thought the image was from a Teen Vogue cover) was really proud of her for calling out the evils of Photoshop and their nose-replacing ways like always. Except there was one problem. That magazine is saying they didn’t alter her nose in the image:
“I can assure you, FASHION Magazine did not give Lorde a new nose. Sometimes lighting or camera angles can give the impression that things look smaller, larger or different than they really are.”
Innnnteresting. Standing up to Lorde, something that no one’s dared to do since Selena Gomez tried and failed. I’m interested to see how this turns out. It’s definitely happened before that Lorde has gotten a little carried away with her retorts, so hopefully if she is off-base in this instance, she’ll be cool about it and quickly get back to being the wise old teenager that we know and love.
