Tori Spelling And Dean McDermott’s New Lifetime Show Is Guaranteed To Make You Feel Uncomfortable

Tori and Dean Lifetime Show 4-11-14

I don’t think there’s a single one of us out there who hasn’t reveled in a little harmless schadenfreude here and there, myself absolutely included.  Especially when it revolves around reality television stars, because come on – they’re kinda asking for it, right?  Right.

But I honestly can’t muster up even a tiny bit of snark about this clip from Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott‘s new show on Lifetime, True Tori.  Because even though I don’t necessarily understand or support the reasoning behind the decision to air their dirty laundry for the world to see, it’s truly depressing and kind of heartbreaking to watch these two people desperately try to fix their broken marriage and try to overcome the fact that Dean cheated.  A lot.

“I could never give him enough sex. He’s never going to be happy with just me.” Ugh.  Ughhhhh. What a nightmare.  I couldn’t imagine experiencing something as traumatic as that with a bushel of small children involved on top of it.  Apparently Tori and Dean aren’t doing any press to promote the show, either – which only solidifies the fact that despite the cameras, the paycheck they’re receiving, and the tons of people watching their drama unfold, this seems pretty real.  And so does the discomfort you now feel after only watching 30 seconds of this show.  Godspeed, everyone.

I don’t understand what’s so difficult to get about ‘once a cheater, always a cheater’. Besides, I’m pretty sure this is all one big publicity stunt.

        Yup, I think I smell a Pratt!

It’s totally exploitative to turn your marriage crisis and therapy into a reality show.

However, this is how Tori earns a living- she does reality shows with her family. The interest in her has waned in recent years, and I’ll bet that nobody was interested in making and airing a show that DIDN’T focus on the media storm around Dean’s cheating. So it’s exploitative, but it’s probably the only way she could make this kind of money right now. I don’t have a huge amount of sympathy for her financial situation because she has been living outside of her means for years and now she’s always on the verge of being broke, but I can understand why she’d do this show even if it felt gross…

I disagree a little about living outside of her means. I read two of Tori’s books and in them, she acknowledges that her father left her practically nothing and that her mother is a tight-wad and won’t give her anything and throughout the books, she’s always looking for ways to cut corners and put money away for savings. Even when she was on 90210 she never owned a mansion, she lived in a 2-bedroom apartment with a roommate. When she wanted to go to Malibu for a vacation, she rented a little one-bedroom apartment blocks from the beach, not a house on the water. It’s DEAN who is the problem. This guy married her thinking he was going to come into some Daddy money, so he bought tons of motorcycles and race cars – with TORI’S money, since he has none of his own. If anyone is living above their means, it’s him.

And I do feel sympathy for her because she was brought up in this business, became famous as a teenager and didn’t realize then it wasn’t going to last forever. Now she’s an adult and what is she supposed to do – go to a trade school and being a dental assistant? It must be horrible to have to dream up new ways to exploit yourself just to get your bills paid. What she needs to do is kick him to the curb. I’m reminded of that line Shirley McLaine said to Debra Winger in ‘Terms of Endearment’ – “How is your life ever going to get better if you keep having children with that man?”

poor tori was only left $800,000 by her father and she’s gone through that already and has to keep changing mansions, every few months ; ,one step beofre eviction notices… its not right

      • MurphyG

I believe she was “only” left $100,000.

This woman bought this farm,so the rocks go with it..Yes, why so difficult to understand,if he will do it with you,he’ll do it to you…Hellooooooooo….

    • MurphyG

I’m not so sure that I believe this storyline. It seems to me like a stunt to get people to watch her show…

She made mistakes and now has to live with them. There are so many train wrecks in the media now, there’s no reason anyone should watch this.

Men are selfish, and her MOM was right to hold off giving inheritance she KNEW!
