Are you like so excited for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer? I am! And it’s not because I have any interest in sports whatsoever. I mean, the minuscule amounts that I had were used up on watching the Olympics. The 1992 Olympics, of course. Shout out to that time I watched Cool Runnings while the 2014 Olympics took over the TV.
I’m excited for this year’s World Cup because 2010′s World Cup brought us amazing things like the vuvuzela (!!!) and K’naan’s “Waving Flag” song. Which you probably remember being the song of the summer. Or at least one of the them. On the slight chance you don’t remember having this song stuck in your head, let me remind you how it goes.
I know I can’t be the only one who would listen to it at work and be like, “when I get older, I will be stronger and that’s why I’m putting off the gym today and going to happy hour instead. Because it will be easier when I’m stronger. (I also can’t be the only one who continues to confuse this World Cup with the Quidditch World Cup.)
This year’s World Cup looks to be no different when it comes to creating catchy music for us to blast all summer long. In fact, I’m already obsessed with this year’s official song. It’s called “We Are One (Ole Ola)” and it features indie music scenesters Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull (and a Brazilian artist named Claudia Leitte). Both J.Lo and Pitbull are very up and coming performers and my fingers are crossed that this could be the song that pushes them into the spotlight.
In all seriousness though guys, how much do you love this song?
