Scarlett Johansson’s Complaint About Being Called ScarJo Will Make You Want To Call Her That Even More

Scarlett Johansson Captain America The Winter Soldier UK premiere March 2014

You know how there are some people — particularly celebrities — who just rub you the wrong way for no clear identifiable reason? You just don’t really like them very much? Scarlett Johansson’s one of those people for me. She seems like she takes herself a little too seriously and isn’t very fun, and a lack of fun is high on my list of undesirable qualities. This new quote from her interview in Glamour magazine regarding the nickname ScarJo just adds to my distaste.

In short, ScarJo doesn’t like it when people call her ScarJo. And the way she complains about it just makes me want to call her ScarJo even more, because I’m evil like that:

“I associate that name with, like, pop stars. It sounds tacky. It’s lazy and flippant… There’s something insulting about it.”

First of all, way to diss pop stars. That just sounds so haughty to me, like she’s appalled that someone would dare refer to a serious movie star with a “tacky” nickname, but using it for a popular singer (like J.Lo?) would make sense. And as for the “lazy and flippant” part, if people are calling her ScarJo to her face or when announcing her at award shows — which I’m pretty sure isn’t happening, at least not often — I could see how that would get tiresome. But it’s mostly just used online as a way to save space or time while still getting across who you’re talking about. Everything’s abbreviated these days. I thought about writing this entire post just using the first letter of each word, but apparently that’s still considered “confusing.” Whatever.

As for the “insulting” part, it’s not like we’re changing her name to Ugly Loser or Eww I Hate Her. It’s literally just taking some letters out of her name. Maybe I’m being insensitive, but I just get the impression that Scarlett thinks she’s too good or talented or classy or famous for a fun nickname. I don’t think of her as any less of an artist because sometimes people shorten her name. Sure, I thought that after watching He’s Just Not That Into You, but not because of her nickname.

If anything, ScarJo is a name given by fans who love her! Come on, girl, lighten up.

Just because it might have been fans who have given her the nickname, doesn’t mean she has to like it. I mean I would prefer it if total strangers just call me by my formal name.

It’s her name, she has every right to get upset about a nickname she doesn’t like. https://vidd.me/Khh
